  • What is in these books that isn't available in a google search?

You can't read linux, you have to DO linux.

    • I was considering buying these as I’ve just started playing around with raspberry pi’s, is there a good YouTube series or something that goes from basics to advanced Linux? Finding lots of info, but it’s mostly low quality/very basic stuff..

A good and free reference is Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition https://rlworkman.net/howtos/rute/ although it is quite old, should have relevancy today.

Interesting, have not come across Linux YouTube series. Some Udemy courses that appear on Ozbargain are also good, others can be low quality.

      • Don't get these books then, they are all quite specialist. Get something with raspberry pi in the title, your local library probably has something.

        • I'm after a general Linux learning path, rather than Pi specific, as I have a XPS13 I plan on installing Ubuntu onto.

          • @Manusdei: Just start from the beginning. Download ISO then find out how to install it. Dual boot or solo, etc. Then research how to install packages and fine tune package manager. By this time you'll probably be seeing some commands from ubuntu/linux forums and see what the are doing. It's not a set process you can necessarily learn from a book, it's more like your own path is different to someone else's.

You could say that about almost anything these days.

      Some people like guided learning.
It will also touch on many topics the user may not end up searching for.
