eBay Seller Away, Product 40% off - Can't Checkout

I'm trying to purchase an item at 40% off on eBay from a seller who's currently away (for another week). When trying to checkout, I'm getting the following warning:

The seller is away until 19 Jan, 2021.
The seller of one or more items in your cart is on holiday. If you wish to purchase the item, please allow additional time for your order to be sent.

Totally fine, I'm not in a rush. When trying to checkout, I'm getting an error:

Sorry, we can't complete your checkout at this time. Please try changing your item quantity or check your account status.

Any tips on how to secure this item? If they're away until 19 Jan, does that mean I should come back at midnight that day?
I'm a bit worried the item goes back to full price when they're back.

  • This is likely nothing to do with the seller.

Have you googled the error you're getting? there are thousands of results with basic troubleshooting steps you can go through before contacting Ebay.

    • Yes I Googled and I do believe the error is directly related to their holiday/break.

  • +1

eBay sellers can choose to pause sales (while keeping items listed) during their time away. Nothing much you can do other than waiting for the seller to come back.

    • Trying to find out what 'away until 19 Jan' mean for eBay. Does that mean that the shop resumes (automatically) on the 20th? Should I try and place the order at 00:01 on the 20th?

      • I've purchased an item from an eBay seller who was also away at the time & a similar message appeared on the listing advising that the item will be shipped after their return.

Perhaps eBay sellers have options to allow sales whilst they're away as well as pausing them although the message you received is confusing if the order cannot be placed in the meantime.

Suggest you check back on 19/01 just in case the seller got their dates confused too 😉
