how about Sony KD85X9000H, TCL 85P715 and Samsung Q70?
At 85" Edgelit TVs will start to really suffer in a dark room. FALD would be far better at this size
The FALD options would be the Hisense Q8 (all time low: $3600, regularly discounted to $4000) and the Sony X9000H (all time low: $4000). Both are $5000 right now (this is not the best time to buy TVs, you should probably wait until mid-end feb when 2020 clearances start). If you absolutely have to get one now, the Hisense is a bit brighter and the Sony has HDMI 2.1 (albeit with blurry 4K120) The Sony is a bit cheaper at Costco right now as well.
If you care about gaming (casual gamers with no eye for quality or useless fps won't care), you'll want HDMI 2.1 and a 120hz panel. This knocks out both of the terrible suggestions in the other reply (X8000H and hisense).
I got a Samsung Q80T 85" about 5 months ago, have been very happy with it, mainly paid extra over Q70T for the sake of getting FALD and better viewing angles. I was buying for picture quality and high quality gaming (aka using a PC running 4K/120, and next gen consoles with VRR etc). On paper the X9000H should be decent, but it was plagued by extremely bad issues back when I was looking, mainly relating the the gaming features and HDMI 2.1 being completely broken. Would certainly be worth reading up on that first to see whether it has been resolved yet (at the time I was looking, Sony had disabled the broken features in software and promised a later firmware update to fix)
edit: looks like the sony issues were never fixed? lol: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/576669
2020 TV's have been very hit and miss. Every manufacturer has failed to properly implement HDMI 2.1
If you can wait, I'd highly recommend you wait for 2021 model TV's to start arriving.
Last year was really the first generation of tv’s that actually saw the hdmi 2.1 port being used properly with new video cards and consoles. It’s understandable that there would be issues. Will be good to see how the tv manufacturer’s lift their game next generation.
Wait a month or 2 and look at 2021 releases.
Most of them are being unveiled at CES this month so will probably be in stores by Easter.I would highly recommend Hisense Q8 FALD. The OS is snappy, comes with integrated jbl soundbar and the picture quality is a treat for the eyes.
