  • where would the seats for the 2nd part be? can't seem to find a way to select seat

    • +4

It would be the same seats as the first part.

      • +1

yep purchased some and found out that way! ticketmaster have a horrible order page. no confirmation of date or anything

    • -3

How does it feel to be a cancel culturing clout chaser? Where was your activism when it comes to other issues such as the authoritarian Chinese, North Korean and Russian regimes or the environment?

      • +4

J K Rowling is maybe allowed to have her own opinions, but she's always been presented as a role model for children, what hard work and perseverance can help you achieve in life (unless you identify as the "wrong" gender, and she conveniently defines what the "wrong" gender is).

        • -4

"maybe allowed to have her own opinions, but" = AKA until it differs from your hivemind narrative.

I can't believe we live in a society where people normalize a mental disorder such as gender dysphoria. Maybe people that see ghosts or hear voices in their head are not crazy after all!

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: Well I dunno, if we are not allowed to have opinions about her opinions, then maybe she's not allowed to have opinions either. The hivemind is making me rethink if she, like we, are allowed to have opinions or not.

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: hate speech is different than opinion. Just need to respect

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Gender dysphoria is not a mental disorder and has not been classified as such in a number of years by various organisations and governments.

            • -1

@tetra: The notion of gender binarism that he seems to believe in was debunked long ago.

              • -1

@[Deactivated]: By who and for how long ago?

Call me an old (wo)man but why do we have that thing between our legs?? By accident??

                • -1

@brongz: Sounds like a classic case of a male thinking his penis defines him? It's pointless suggesting it but you could try reading instead of looking at your genitals. Searching gender spectrum will turn up plenty of useful information.

                • @brongz: I don't have a vagina so that people call me a woman. Most people who believe me to be a woman have never seen it and I'm lead to believe it's none of their damn business what's between my legs. I guess I forgot about it being someone else's business when they want to use it to discriminate against people.

                  • -1

@Miss B: Acknowledging someone as a man or a woman doesn’t mean discriminating.

It can lead to respect each other boundaries.

By giving seat to a woman doesn’t make the man discriminate against them. It’s respect.

                    • @brongz: If you wouldn't give a seat to someone because of their genitals are you discriminating? What if they're intersex and don't identify as a man or a woman, then do they get the seat or not? Do you check their genitals before giving them the seat? What if you later realised someone you gave a seat to had a penis?

            • -4

@tetra: Yeah, lotta things changing in the psychology norms nowadays.

Something that was considered taboo, now isn’t anymore because the ‘experts’ said so.

Sorry to ask, but what’s the point of having that thingy between our legs (adult convo)? Doesn’t it mean anything?

Maybe my child can slap me in the face when I told him/her off not to do something. The defence “I’m grown up, I have mature brain to think, but me still trapped in this small kid’s body”.

              • -2

@brongz: Your ignorance was obvious in your first post, no need to repeat it. Gender is about far more than "psychology" as you put it. I'm sure you'll want to read in much greater depth /s but here's a good basic summary which may help:

Today, numerous scientific fields, including biology, endocrinology, physiology, genetics, neuroscience, and reproductive science, have confirmed that sex and gender exist as a spectrum, both for humans and across the animal kingdom.

                • -1

@[Deactivated]: That’s what I’m saying. ‘Experts’. But who chose and called them experts? Consensus by whom?

I’m not ignorant and do know there are some males who have feminine sides. But that doesn’t make them women because for sure in biology the genital defines that gender binary (unless the biology material in class has changed so much lately).

                  • @brongz: Your comment shows you to be ignorant…

You try to dismiss these 'Experts' (therefore, science), ignoring their education and qualifications in these scientific fields, then try to (incorrectly) apply science to your argument. Which is it? Science by whose "consensus"?!?!?! or science is science?

Also there's no gender in biology, it's sex. So you're not even using correct science for your argument, you're just making things up.

Unsure if you're a troll or just not that bright, but stop pretending you have any knowledge at all. If you really care then actually educate yourself instead of literally making things up lmao.

                    • @tetra: What makes mathematics different from economics, psychology or other social sciences eventhough both using number??

                  • @brongz: You're ignorant primarily because you refuse to inform yourself and appear to think your untrained, uninformed opinion is better than or as valid as highly trained, qualified and experienced experts. That's a very common trait in some demographics unfortunately. How does one become "expert"? I'll leave you to research that - as obvious as it is.

Gender spectrum isn't about some men having "feminine sides". You presumably missed the clues in bold in my comment (quote) above. Your last sentence is telling. I suggested you read, and had you done so you (hopefully) wouldn't have made such an ignorant comment.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Highly trained, educated? You mean like those promoting free trade world is good at our uni classes.

Now when China overtaking their economic power they screaming, unfair!

Educated ‘experts’ from different perspective. The best, perhaps it’s a mere opinion or interpretation based on probability since it’s not exact science like mathematics.

In that case other opinions/interpretation is permissible for not agreeing with what those ‘experts’ think. If you agree with them, it’s your choice as well as I have my own choice to disagree (telling me ignorant because I don’t agree with your way of thinking is basically the same ignorance that you preach on me).

                      • @brongz: Your example is totally irrelevant. The equivalent in this context would be discussing the social rules around gender and discrimination - which is how society chooses to deal with real gender issues which arise. Apparently you don't know about hermaphroditism and haven't heard of Caster Semenya (for example).

If you want to question the science around the gender spectrum then do some intense study and provide evidence to refute expert claims. That's how science works and improves. Simply knocking the expertise of others because it doesn't fit your own ignorant beliefs is childish. The science behind the gender spectrum is there for you to read and absorb. It won't vanish simply because you refuse to acknowledge its existence. That science (like pretty much all science) is not set in stone - it's the state of current knowledge, based on limited study and a relatively short timeframe (in scientific terms). There is always room for "different interpretations" and debate BASED ON DATA, KNOWLEDGE, AND RESEARCH - that's one of the underlying tenets of proper science. That almost always requires knowledge and understanding of a variety of things (and use of other people's expertise) - in this case physiology, brain function, chemistry, endocrinology….

"Mere opinion"? Yours could definitely be labelled that but unless you're reinventing English it's not a description to be applied to valid gender studies. Your use of that phrase is telling. It highlights the real problem - that you simply think your own uniformed opinion is just as valid as that of people from a variety of fields who have researched, published and had their data and conclusions publicly scrutinised. You instead attack the large, complex (and fairly easy) target of "experts".

Despite what you think - and what is promoted in certain conservative, religious, conspiracy theory, anti-knowledge/anti-science etc sectors - all opinion isn't equal, nor are uninformed opinions (necessarily) valid. There's plenty of discussion on that separate topic for you to read when you get beyond your anti-"expert" tantrum. Googling "false equivalence" might help.

There is nothing wrong with healthy, informed skepticism - informed being the key word. An individual's "choice" to believe what he/she wants (even in the face of clear evidence and vast repositories of knowledge to the contrary) is certainly their own but they (and you) you make a huge error thinking that it is therefore relevant or valid, or that others should accept it.

Btw - mathematics is FAR from an "exact science". Here's a brief discussion on that topic. Plenty more out there if you really want to learn : http://mathandmultimedia.com/2010/10/11/is-mathematics-an-ex…

          • @[Deactivated]: "Mental Disorder". Perhaps they, and the experts who deal with such issues, should be press-ganged into gender conversion therapy eh?

"Crazy"? You might want to brush up on your use of language some time because it's pretty obvious that your understanding of mental health (and its closely linked physical health) belongs in the 19th century.

We've ignored the elephant in the room for far too long imo. It's about time we dealt with the dual "mental disorder" problems of religious conservatism and ignorance.

  • +10

Great production! Bit annoyed now that I paid full price when there was a bargain to be had! But I empathize that the industry is suffering & needs to discount tickets to fill seats.

    • +17

Was worth it at full price. Don't often hear an OzBargain user say that.

    • +1

This play was absolutely stunning and 100% worth full price.

  • Thanks OP

  • +5

Anyone know if tickets get refunded if the border closes?

    • +5

with ticketmaster lol I am sceptical

    • +2

Can confirm you'll be refunded if you cannot attend due to Covid border closures

      • Thanks

  • +3

    thanks OP! super deal.

Bought 2 tix and the seats that I picked for part 1 is also automatically applied to part 2 if this helps anyone else thinking of buying.

  • +1

    Good show

  • -1

Hoping they bring back the Friday Forty. Won 4 times and gave some away. All seats were great.

    • woot, I never won that thing :(

      • +1

I entered pretty religiously for many months haha

        • +7

And kept entering after you had won, making it harder for others like fomal to get tickets?

    • Why don't you want money to go to J. K.?

        • +1

lol are people not allowed to have opinions anymore?

          • -1

@morediscount: opinion is different than hate speech. You just need to respect, that's all.

            • +6

@luizmarin: @luizmarin maybe I'm wrong.. but I think all she said was she didn't believe in it .. I don't think that's hate speech

          • @morediscount: Are you talking about us or JK? It would seem we are not allowed to have opinions about JKs opinion. The existence of trans people never gets discussed here so maybe it all depends on what your opinion is of our opinion of her opinion. But that's just like your opinion man.

            • @AustriaBargain: @AustriaBargain was referring to JK

            • @AustriaBargain: Do you not have any reading comprehension skills?

            • @AustriaBargain: I'm not trans so I can't give any say about the subject, I respect and believe anyone can choose what to do with his own life and I don't agree with what JK believes and say so I choose to not support her attacks to the trans community.

              • +4

@luizmarin: huh? she just gave one opinion ! there are no attacks on any community …

                • -2

@morediscount: Imagine you are reborn as a woman inside a man's body. You eventually decide to transition. You spend a lot of money and time to physically transition. Then jk Rowling says that you'll never be a woman

              • @luizmarin: A wise person once said gender appropriation can't be ok while racial appropriation is off limits. I fully agree, but it's a messy topic.

Don't want a trans dude to not be able to identify as female…but also don't want to see a white guy casually using the N word..

                • +2

@ChadHominem: There was actually a white chick claiming she identifies as black lol

    • Wasn't cursed child not even a JK Rowling story? I remember hearing it was just fan fic that got "endorsed" by JK (maybe as a JK….).

      • +2

Not Rowling, screen play was some other dude.

        J. K is still a meme though with all the stuff she's trying to change with her old books

      • The play was primarily the effort of Jack Thorne (playwright) and John Tiffany (director). To quite an extent Rowling contributed to the story, perhaps by framing it to an extent given her expertise in the area, but didn’t actually write the script. Thorne was still responsible for the story and writing, Rowling helped him with certain details only the original author could have helped with. She didn’t contribute much otherwise, apart from being in the middle of the process of the play’s making I believe.

    • I've seen the production and I thought it was great (only read the first one in school). Excellent use of the set and theatre.

My main grip was some of the casting and character choices - Draco is basically his dad.

  • for those that have gone, any recommendations on best seating positions?

    • +1

I don't really like sitting on the floor level. I had a centre seat 2nd row of the first upper level and though it was really good.

    • +3

Front rows of upper level imo. Or near the aisle on the floor levels if upper levels is out of your budget.

    • I sat bottom level in the first third-ish? and it was fantastic. if you are too far back on the bottom you won't be able to see the detail.

    • Get the aisle seat if you can.

      • why Aisle? is it because it is so long, that you may need to go for a piss?

        • Because the seats are so tiny if you can't stretch your legs out it's torture. Although that may not be such an issue any more with COVID

        • +3

Because there's a scene in the play where you'd wish you were sitting in the aisle. I can't tell much without giving spoilers.

    • First few rows on the floor were fine (from friday forty), there were only a few moments where what you were meant to focus on was at the back of the stage and at those times we couldn't really see it. Apart from that it was amazing. I think further back on the floor would be fine, but before you're under the balcony, otherwise the front rows of the upper levels.

    • +1

Very detailed guide with matching photos from the seat’s perspective.

  • Great deal! Recently bought six tickets for January but they got shifted to an inconvenient date in August due to the delayed resume date. Hoping I can get them refunded then rebook on this deal for a more convenient date!

    • +8

i wouldn't say she's inclusive of diversity since she is against trans women

      • Doesn't seem like it when she tweets Dumbledore and grindlewald had an "intense sexual relationship"

        • If I had a series successful enough to cast my favourite actresses, you can bet I would retcon characters' sexuality and give them an "intense sexual relationship" of the female kind. Im only human…

  • +2

thanks OP, got two. Was planning on going anyway and this sweetens the deal!

  • was this a special link or email you received as logged into my Ticketmaster and they dont have this deal ?

  • Thanks OP, got two!

    • do the tickets get sent to your ticketmaster account and when purchasing do you get the same seat for the second show

      • I did the Sunday session, so the single seating selection went across two shows. And Tickets are accessible through your account, but tickets aren't actually available till 72 hours before the event.

        • Okay thanks for that

  • +2

I've seen this show it is fantastic. incredibly huge production, super entertaining, great special effects and great story. theres something like 70 backstage techs so its not a cheap show to put on- but its incredible. Hope they come out of this okay!

  • Bought the $65 tickets, seats up the back. Hopefully I'll be able to see most of the stage… has anyone else sat up the back and can comment on the view?

    • Which level?

    • I sat fairly close to the last row of seats and the view was great. It's a different perspective for sure but no lesser at this venue.

    • Yep, did lots of research and people said it's actually good for some of the effects, which having seen it I'd agree with. That said, if I was a diehard fan, I'd probably want to be closer, but for the money, I still thought they were excellent.

    • Bring opera glasses as back up.

    • I got the $65 restricted tickets as well, I'm in the first set of seats (row R) really hope they are okay!

  • +1

Such a great price that I had to book - Thanks OP!!

  • +1

I've already seen the show, but bought two tix again to it with my wife. Thanks OP.

    • Hope you don’t tell your wife that you’ve seen the show without her before

  • If only this coincided with AO I would be more inclined to pull the trigger.

  • thanks for posting, got stalls row H on the side, $155 each, hope they are decent

  • +1

    Awesome thanks OP!!!!

  • Thanks OP! Got a restricted view, but ah well, can't go too wrong for $65 plus ticket master fee

  • when does 7:30 pm session end? might have to take the next day off work.

and is there refund policy incase we get locked down again in melbourne or need iso?

    • As for locked down again, they will likely just shift your ticket to another day. Cirque Du Soleil did that, and if you weren't able to attend the new date, they would help you switch it.

They would give you exactly the same seat as before if they switched you to a new date, but if you request for another change due to auto changing of date, then they wont guarantee the seats but would offer you one within the same "class"

    • +1

About 10:30; it's 2.5 hours long with a 20 minute interval from memory

  • I wonder if a recorded version is available anywhere online due to Covid.

    • I recall there was. Past tense.
