What Was The Longest Time You Took to Return Something Unopened or Near New to Bunnings?

Since Bunnings doesn't really have a time limit on returning unopened goods for refunds.

Interested to see what ozbargainers have purchased and managed to get a refund couple years later?

Did you know Bunnings has a ‘Perfect Plant Promise’? If your plant dies within 12 months, staff will check the plant and can issue you a refund.

    • Yes

    • Really?

I kill all my plants somehow, why would they give me a refund for being a bad carer?

      • The staff will normally be trained to dissect the plant and determine the cause of death.

        • that sounds ridiculous and overkill like they're botanists but fantastic

          is receipt needed?
never thought about keeping receipts for a perishable like plants

    • oh there's exlusions tho hmmm

  • I've got some of these water control valves in the shed that I never got around to using, moved house so they're definitely not going to be used. Would have had them for over a year and always forget to take them when I go to Bunnings

    • Got the receipt?

      • Pretty sure when I put it away in the shed it was with it as I had planned to return it….I dare say it's all faded and illegible by now though going by how most receipt paper fares over time.

        • Drivers licence job then lol

track the expense on your account statement, provide them the date and time of purchase and CC (if used) and they can do a reprint of the receipt, (in store of original purchase only).

I recently requested this for my 5 piece PXC Ozito kit as I could not find the receipt. The exchange/return counter call the back office, to find the transaction and then printed it to the counter printer.

    • Those valves are special order items. They are not an item that the majority of Bunnings will stock.

      • You must have stopped stocking them sometime after I purchased them as I didn't know about them until I saw them in store. Not something I would have looked up and ordered.

        • Some Bunnings may stock them but not the majority. For example one store in my local area has them in stock.

  • I think about 18 months. Didn't expect them to take it back but I also knew they accepted returns on a lot of things they shouldn't so thought it can't hurt to ask. They didn't even blink, just processed the return and that was it.

    • What was the item?

      • A laundry basin tap set. It was unused. Was going to DIY but realised there was some issues with the current install. Got a plumber out and they confirmed the same thoughts and advised against changing it (was only changing it for aesthetics) as he couldn't guarantee tiles wouldn't be damaged etc. By the time I got around to looking at it myself then more time until I got the plumber in then more time to when I thought of returning it an easy 18 months had passed.

I saw a woman try to return a 2 year old screwdriver set at artarmon once. The guy at the counter was none too happy.
They should put a time limit on things being returned unless warranty, and have a no returns on tools as they then have to sell it at a loss, which costs us all. If you need, and use, a tool then you own it. If you want to borrow it, go to coates/kennards hire.
    My 2c.

Maybe she thought it was a drink (vodka and orange juice).

      Why isn't Bunnings licensed? lol

      • Surely the OJ would've gone off in 2 years.

    • I think they already sell things at a loss like many clearance items which can be below cost.

If the screw driver set was used and return then yeah a real jerk move. If unopened then I think it's alright.

I love the no time limit returns policy as it aligns with the ozbargain spirit, buy first think later. Also there are heaps of clearance items that can be sold for a profit and if cannot be done is just a simple return to Bunnings. A reseller's paradise.

All of what you said just makes everything more expensive.
Yes, clearance items are sold at a loss to free up shelf space, but to return something 2 years later with a credit card statement is beyond all reasonable expectations. He couldn't know how much she paid for it, was it a weekly special, clearance item, who would know? Is the staff expected to cross reference 2 year old daily invoices to match a purchase? What an utter waste of time.

        • good points but I think inflation is going to make things cost more in general than returns

every man and woman for themselves and a buck is a buck regardless of the amount for some

everyone just need to wait in line no watch tappy tappy

        • High skilled jobs. Hardly a waste of time.

  • To avoid fading receipts, take photo - handy for warranty purposes (not just Bunnings).

If you have Powerpass, then very convenient.

Longest Time You Took to Return Something Unopened

Couple of months - Bunnings isn't convenient for me to walk to when I do my other main shopping, nor quick to get in and out.

  • Mine was 2 year return, unopened and still with original receipt. They took it back on questions.

    • what was the item and what did they ask?

      • typo mistake on my reply.

        *No questions

    • sorry. *Took it back no questions

  • 3-5 months but there were a covid lockdown and some laziness from me.

If you have a receipt and it’s still in the system (for some items this could be years) then it’s fine to return.

  • Ahhh, well it all began some months ago on a seemingly typical day only small deviations from my usual circuit through the store. I was on my way out of town for some rural work where the qty of some required materials were difficult to determine until it progressed. I must remind you though, was not present to suck eggs on a feel good meander through the botanical gardens out back and test some locals on their knowlege of the area. I was already feeling good enough from being presented such a fitting return policy i didn't need that sh!t. I left with about 46x items at $20 each. The job went great, and thats where i did it, i changed my mind and used 15.

The 30 surplus proudly sat upon a bench of similar height from where they had been relocated. Many had come to know them and i recall a friend once saying they were as familiar as his mazda (the model also he had, he is a clever chap). Turns out a few moons were likely to have passed before i bit the bullet and drove to the store. A matter of minutes later it similarly turns out with supporting evidence a few suns had also passed and i suspect a few more times than usual as it certainly was not my receipt keeping practices engaging in evolution. They were looking very new, fresh off the roll like Pat Mullens after a big day infact. If i was worried about anything at this point is was a method of sticking these receipts end to end and back on a reel to offset the global warming that just got real.

I spent some time in the store looking for stuff to get with a credit refund of $600, yet meeting requirements to be unassuming enough with a hint of relevance to something she said once and admissible in the court, yard as not inciting fun… Now thats what your package should be relaying… but doesnt quite do the job among pseudo-genderians BUT i digress …

Nevertheless it was seemingly all impossible to acheive no matter how practiced i become at the craft when i heard "How will you be paying for the rest of it"… The price had reduced to reflect a total that did not even have a 2 infront of it. I purchased them back as my store credit was just the perfect amount and they sit about 3m from where i tell my story today…… and here we have the ending, good evening.
