  • LOL @ Cost savings - "About 40% cheaper than your local butcher"….

    • -1

      Thanks for checking us out!

Depending where you're located, we truly do offer significant savings for comparable qualities of meat =D. Need to remember it's not always a fair comparison when just looking at cut type and $/kg, thanks again!

      • +1

No problem with your offer just some of your messaging. Similarly not fair to claim you are circa 40% cheaper than my local Butcher without insights to their cut/quality & price.

        • Mate just look at

      • +2

if $/kg isn't a fair comparison then what is?

        • -1

Hey there! There are a number of factors that contribute to meat quality, such as where the meat is sourced, whether organic / free-range, and the grade of the actual piece of meat. We aim to provide the highest possible quality within reasonable budget =D

          • +4

@meat-mama: I guess what we're saying is that if you are going to make a claim we should know on what basis you are making it. An example of a butcher that is 40% more expensive than you for equivalent product would help us contextualise the bargain.

Otherwise you could say 40% better for the same price? Or something…

          • +1

@meat-mama: But we are taking your word for it, vs your competitors word.

If you cant even bring yourself to list your $/kg like it seems you cant, then chances are you are just another ripoff merchant.

            • +1

@stumo: free range, most aussie beef is free range because spacer in a padock is cheaper than locking up cattle, and also grass is cheaper than grain when it comes to feed, so grass fed, free range is as cheap as it gets for aussie beef.

In regards to cut, a full fillet steak, my local butcher gives me the centre cut because he knows I will grill as fillet mignon and don't want the tail or butt piece ….

Aldi eye fillet cooks up as good as any non waguy graded steam, as do their scotch if you pick the right packs.

          • @meat-mama: I spend a truckload on Woolworths meat at $40/kg~ (essentially free delivery) and would love an alternative, especially if it's better quality.

The easier you make the comparison for me the quicker I will switch to you :)

              @akbal: Thanks for posting these!

Yes the macro organic products would be loosely the closest comparison (unsure if the others are even free-range?)

However macro would be a volume-based producer, which generally is a lower quality than what you would find at a butcher.

A better comparison may be something like Hagen's Organic (https://hagensorganics.com.au/collections/organic-beef-hagen…). E.g they sell eye fillet at $92.90/kg, porterhouse for $58/kg

Also don't forget to check out our Wagyu Korean BBQ range, which is 100% exclusive to Meat Mama!

              Thanks again =D

No bargains to be had there.

Always wary of anyone offering meat boxes/packs.

Pricing is per serve rather than per kg - attempting to make it look cheap.

Organic porterhouse approx $52 a kg plus shipping!

    • -2

      Thanks for checking us out!

Refer above for some commentary on price/kg =D

Also note that our boxes are the greatest value, with larger sizes being discounted further than the individual meat prices. There is also free shipping if you're willing to commit to 2 orders (just choose once per month, can always cancel after the second delivery)

And if you consider the $15 off with this deal, the price/kg goes down even further!

      Hope that helps, thanks again!

  • +1

    Very, very expensive
We buy our meat from a Western District on-line butcher and for grass fed, Angus beef pay about 30%-40% less than the prices here.
Maybe not "organic" but how would you ever tell if you actually get "organic"

  • Isn't the same price as dining out?

  • Yeah this seems massively overpriced. Just did a quick comparison with Beef Scotch fillets, Woolworths is selling them for $31.5/kg, Meat Mama is selling them for $60/kg.
    Great deal….

    • aldi scotch is $25 kg …..

  • +2

Agree with others - massively overpriced for what looks to be same quality as Woolies or Aldi, aka pasture fed grade 2 - 4 rubbish. I'd challenge the OP to reveal the grading of the meat in question instead of making arbitrary claims that "smaller butchers produce higher quality meat" - which is just bull shit.

    • +1

yep, most butchers get their cuts in cryovac bags, very few would go to the farm, check out the animal, etc …. it's cryovac and they pick if it's king island, gippsland, etc

  • yeah, attention grabber would prices cheaper than Aldi or woolies for scotch, eye fillet or porterhouse.

  • Prices are OK for Korean BBQ/Yakiniku meat. Wouldn't say "significantly 40% cheaper than local butcher", did some calculations and its about the same price as my local korean butcher.

    • Unless you're getting quality grain-fed with a score of 8 or above, you're getting massively ripped off by your local butcher. Grass-fed rubbish at these prices is highway robbery (should be < $60/kg for even the best grass-fed scotch fillet).

  • Thanks for everyone's comments here! We appreciate your feedback =D

Agreed that if you are looking for the absolute cheapest, we probably aren't it for traditional cuts. However we stand by the quality of our products and the service we offer.

Looks like our Korean BBQ Range has been the most popular for Ozbargainers, thanks for giving us a chance!

    Cheers!

  • I was also skeptical before ordering but I bit the bullet and gave it a try. I DO NOT REGRET IT, the portions were generous and the meat was by far some of the best cuts I've ever tried. Very impressed and incredibly convenient.

Will order again. The wife loved it.

    • Great to hear! Thanks once again for giving us a shot =)
