It uses direct lit backlighting, which would explain it. More expensive TV's use full array backlighting which allows for thinner design.
My 11 year old LG TV is 1/3 of the thickness. That TV is so thick
Thicc
Is that right Robin

No, it’s smart!
It literally says that in the title
Smart, but rather large… not that there's anything wrong with that.
Anyone know how this compares to similar budget 65" LED's? (Eg. Hisense 68S8).
It's hard to find compatible reviews of Australian models.
Thank you. I did see that, the problem is they don't review Australian model Hisense or TCL TV's to compare to.
It's similarly priced to the 65Q7 when on sale, and the US equivalent model seems to be rated higher.
If only it were OLED at this price.
if you wait until 2031 likely will be
I don't think so, OLED displays seem to be on their way out. Mini QLED and dual cell look more like the future.
Why do you say that? OLEDs are only getting better and are now becoming adopted in the gaming market; see the CX 48" setups. Is there any hard evidence that shows they are decreasing in sales?
@reloxation: MicroLED doesn't get burn-in, is brighter, comes in larger sizes and will eventually cost significantly less to produce than OLED. As OLED has no advantages over MicroLED, it will basically be obsolete once the new technology matures.
@Ryballs: Oh interesting. How about the contrast ratios of OLED, does MicroLED come close to them? Thanks for the info mate.
@reloxation: No worries. MicroLED contrast is higher as it's brighter while still having true black.
Trash quality screen
Why?
Because he said so.
LG tend to use poor quality panels and other parts on their budget lines.
Not if your upgrading an old CRT, by comparison.
Depends on the CRT, Sony Trinitron are pretty decent :P
This or the Samsung TU8000?
Where can you find 65 inch TU8000 for this price?
I can’t. But I don’t want a 65inch. The 55s are the same price
This is better than the TU8000 (no local dimming) but the Q7 is better than either.
Um this doesn’t have local dimming either
Yes, that's why the Hisense Q7 is better than it.
ThinQ is the new fat
There appear to be two versions of the UN7300 with the same model code. The one we tested has an IPS panel and is identified as a "Real 4k IPS" on the box. It's possible to find a VA version of it, which is identified by the text "Real 4k Display" on the box. - Rtings
Okay that’s weird. I would click and collect or buy in-store unless you want to be surprised by which panel type you get..
The tv gets riddled with problems after their first year. Lg make their higher end TVs much better quality than their lower end ones.
My father has last year's 55 inch version and wifi has now stopped working. It randomly turns off. I don't even know why Lg would affect their reputation with their cheaper TVs might as well be a premium only brand with high quality TVs
Yep my gran had the exact same problem with 40” LG LCD she bought 2 years ago and panel died shortly thereafter. They tend to use trash parts in their budget ranges. I’d avoid this like the plague.
Also swore to myself that is never buy another lg tv.
After the first year or so Skype was discontinued, then after that YouTube,.. so many features have been removed, turning my smart TV to a dumb TV. Could always but a nvidia shield for it, but I shouldn't have to. All in all its been a good tv, just annoyed they removed features, and features like screen cast no longer work.
Factory reset will solve this
Same thing with Sony.
It costs money to keep the software up to date, plus hardware changes mean functionality gets removed.
I think the android based TVs aren't affected as much (by services being taken offline), IE most apps still support kitkat (although marshmellow is probably the minimum required for some apps.). - usually the worst case with android is, even if you can no longer update to a newer version of the app the old app will continue to function and provide the service. (very much not the case for WebOS.)
Affecting their reputation ?
I didnt think lg could make their reputation much lower lol
Nothing like a bit of chunk on your Sunday morning.
This or the Samsung Q80T? (Difference in price aside)
Samsung Q80T is much better, if you really mean price aside… But, it's twice as expensive…
Hisense 65Q7 much better….Qled and full array.
Sold out everywhere :(
Weird… I thought it was trash, avoid like the plague… why they buying
Lack of knowledge
Exactly.. Dunno why you were downvoted
I was considering getting this just for the LG user interface but the price for this never moved. Ended up getting TCL c715 65inch. This is a Good price though for the LG.
Great, just picked up LG 55" ThinQ from Costco yesterday for $989
return it and buy this?
I've got one, I quite like it. Yes, not the thinnest but happy enough with the quality - massive upgrade image quality wise over my Kogan
Can someone please suggest any other active offers/deals for 65 inch TV? :) I have recently checked this https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hitachi-65qledsm20-65-4k-… at JB and like it. How bout Hisense and other brands?
Buy Eko from Bigw instead, I have heard it has the same panel as Hitachi's and value for money. $699 for qled android tv.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/595433
The link says it's out of stock but check the local stores as if they have less than 3 in stock then it won't show up online.
It's a super deal. Eko comes with a 1-year warranty and the one I shared comes with a 3-year warranty :).
If something happens to the tv in 2 years time , I think we are still covered under consumer law I guess. But yes I agree 3 year warranty gives you piece of mind at least. But for $700 I won't be bothered too much
I’ve had a LG 65UM7400 UHD 4K since April (similar specs) - I can’t fault it and for the price it’s been advertised for (here), it’s a pretty good deal in my opinion
Haven’t had any issues with mine, picture quality is excellent and no issues with wifi/network
I did a lot of research between Hitachi/LG/Sony/Samsung before I decided on this one and it’s working a treat
It is just me or does the TV look fairly thick? :/
