Otherwise if it is fit for purpose you bought it and you need to ask JB.
At best they might give you store Credit.Also if you bought it from the Apple Store you would have 14 day change of mind policy covering you. You can return the iPad for any reason at all, you could tell them you're upset the Trump coup failed and you're ridding your life of all American products, and they would give you your money back and then you could buy another one and get the free AirPods.

The only thing to do is talk to JB. If you’ve put the screen protector on, I’d suspect the answer is no. You could try to sell it on eBay ?
There is nothing preventing him from taking the screen protector off, which would be a loss of $20 or whatever he paid for the screen protector.
Hypothetically, buy new one from Apple, and return said unopen one to JB.
