Volvo XC40 Price Negotiation

Currently looking at an XC40 and wanted to get an idea of previous experience with negotiating down the price. If you’ve had any luck negotiating down the XC40 how much were you able to bring the price down ?

    I would probably settle for about $48k for a T4 based on the current market conditions, that's a fair deal. Maybe $45-46 for a demo.

    Wait a couple of months, things will change.

    Get a decent broker that could find the best price for you. It is not true that there is no space for negotiation in this market. It might be true for a particular model, but not in general. You should always aim to 15-20% discount from RRP.

    There are 111 XC40 MY2021 on carsales right now. You can certainly find a good deal.

      • I just did that days ago and the seller was not laughing… So many cars, so many options, so many dealerships… The one with the money has the power and makes the decision. The others can laugh as much as they want. I was talking with a broker but ended up negotiating the car myself. I do think the broker could have found something similar and a bit cheaper nationwide.

        I was underwhelmed by Volvos and would check Tiguan and BMWs in this price range, but cars are very personal, and people put their money where they want. :)

        • What did you buy? Many people are indicating discounts re hard to come by.

            I think it's hard to explain why that would be so difficult, unless there is a shortage of a particular model, or you want some very specific (i.e., Caribbean blue, sunroof, luxury package, etc.). Again, there are 111 XC40 MY21 on carsales, it's not like there is no option… You just have to talk with the right dealer and be prepared to walk away if they don't negotiate. Most people don't have to buy a car urgently.

              @this is us: So a brand for people with money and prices with a reasonable amount of fat to enable all you wheeler dealers to think you are getting a great bargain.

              • @Euphemistic: What I said is not exclusive. I purchased a BMW recently, but I purchased other cars before, cheaper than the Volvo XC40 we are talking about here.

                People who are very close to me have purchased other brands (VW), vehicles around 40-50k, and I have reasons to believe this "non negotiable because of low stock" is BS. If you don't find a deal is because you want some very specific, or haven't searched enough.

                I'm not here to convince you, I'm sharing my experience, personal or very close anyway.

                I'd strongly recommend OP paid ~600 to a good broker if he/she has no time or patience to keep searching, although I've never used their services myself.

                • @this is us: We are all here to share experiences. My experience is that buying a car is a painful process exacerbated by an expectation of receiving a significant discount or feeling like a failure (for some). The dealers have built a system of overpricing around it to boot. The number of posts here with exactly the same question point to that. ‘What discount can I get?’ Is all too common.

                  • @Euphemistic: I think you are right, but many people don't negotiate and pay RRP for BMW or whatever. That's why we still should try to get 15-20% off.
