Outdoor Projector for Chalkboard Mural Art/Tracing

Would love some recommendations for a good, portable and budget projector! I don't need to play movies or anything fancy. I just need to set it up in a business' reception / waiting room area and transfer art onto a wall. I've tried the EZ Tracer but that was hopeless on a wall this size, and I've tried the Epson ETHW5700 which was great picture/brightness wise but too bulky and difficult for the space.

Aim:
* Transfer guidelines to a 3m x 3m chalkboard wall to draw murals

Needs/Problems:
* Portable
* Non-obtrusive to customers
* Tight budget
* Well-lit area (basically outdoors)

Thanks in advance!

  • Might try short throw. Does it matter how bright it is if it's just for reference when painting?

    • Okay thanks! I think the brightness matters because the room is super bright and I can't turn the lights off :(

      • Can you cover the lights with something?

        • Its in a 24hr waiting room, so I can't

    Overhead projector like we use in schools?

    Assuming the drawing could be completed within a few days, suggest renting out a laser projector. And a short throw one if the budget allows for it.

  • You could try using two smartphones camera streaming.

    • Could you please explain this one a little more?

        One phone mounted still and securely showing the whole scene. This sends/streams the picture to the other phone held by the painter at the wall/surface. Just put a bright table tennis ball or object that is highly visible on the marker. You can either digitally overlay the intended image onto the camera stream or physically with a printout on transparent film….or just a picture next to the viewing screen and a fixed length horizontal spacer.

        There are quite a few ways the hyperrealist painters 'cheat'. :)

        • Have you got any visuals for what you described? My brain is trying to figure it out and I'm struggling haha

          I'm super intrigued!

            @charlottee96: I didn't have this particular software in mind, but searching now this shows one way.

            • @[Deactivated]: Woooah that's awesome thankyou!

              • @charlottee96: I think you could do something similar for free. The crowd above seem to use Augmented Reality…cool, but a bit unnecessary. I would just try one phone streaming the camera with an overlay of the intended image and painting looking at the other phone. On android they would be free with a streaming webcam and VLC player, for example. Lots of free possibilities. The main gist is you would be drawing looking at the screen rather than the physical surface.
