    • thank you !

    • Does this work even over copy right protection? I remember the old days when you needed AnyDVD or something to remove it before ripping a DVD

      • Yeah VLC might only work on un-encrypted DVD's. Typically, hollywood movies will be encrypted but education type DVD's won't.

      • Vlc works for copy-protected discs out of the box, but handbrake plus the libdvdcss thing is better quality imo.

  • Two options but both need libdvdcss:

    MakeMKV

    Handbrake

    • thank you - what is libdvdcss?

      • MakeMKV is the only right answer here.

It's kept up to date, and handles the decrypting and formatting itself.

        It's truly click and go.

  • I remember doing this circa 2005 but can't recall the name of the software. It was awesome though.

      DVD decrypter?

      • i vaguely recall this one from many years ago

      • That's it. That cut through the security stuff and then as below I think I used DVDFab to burn iso onto "backup" disc.

      DVDfab?

    DVD Shrink….

  • Google "Backup DVD" and start reading otherwise a bunch of well known apps have been named in the previous responses. I will add StaxRIP 2.1.5 beta series to the list.

They vary in speed/quality/usability/options. Depending on what you are doing depends on the best app to use, but overall try them if they are free and see which one you like.
You may need to use two apps, a ripper and trans-coder to get the best size and quality.

    • thank you

  • handy cam it like in the 90s 00s lol
play it on tv, and record on it phone
    heheh

    • its my daughter's dancing concerts so want them to be good copies :)

  • There is a free program here
    https://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-MP4-Video-Con…
All you have to do is select the VOB files When it asks what you want to convert,
select What Format & Video Quality and then tell it to combine then into one file and it will convert your DVD to
    selected format.
    Hope this helps

    What's a DVD?

  • Thanks All for your advice

I have managed to copy the dvds to the computer - realised how simple it is when you know how!

Now the issue is that I have windows media player but cannot play the files

i thought when right clicking on the file there would be an option to select autoplay

Again, another simple function where i just need pointed in the right direction

    Thanks in advance :)

    • Try VLC it's free and will play just about anything.

    • DVD: MakeMKV, VLC player.

Audio: exact audio copy, winamp or Foobar

      Bluray: makeMKV, handbrake, VLC Player.

      Ebooks: calibre

      YouTube: youtube-dl script, VLC player.

  • thankyou
    i tried VLC
    i will try the others
