Gaming Headphones to Meet All My Requirements please

Hey Brainstrust,

I'm looking for headphones to meet the following requirements. Please help!

  1. Wireless Gaming (no PS or Xbox just PC)
  2. Bluetooth for mobile calls
  3. Looks sensible enough I could wear outside
  4. Hideable/subtle Mic (per point 3)

I think SteelSeries Arctis 9 (not 9X) would be perfect except for 2 problems: 1. They have some bad reviews 2. They seem to not be available anywhere in the world.

I was also looking at Turtle Beach 700 Gen 2 but the design looks a bit crazy. I also like the passthrough dongle for Arctis 9 but it's not a dealbreaker.

So please, help me find something!

Maybe not helpful but my Sony XM3 won't work with project winter. I get the game sound effects but not people's voices and they can't hear me either.

    • that's exactly what I'm afraid of. My feel is to get a gaming set with bluetooth rather than a bluetooth headset as there can be delay and other weirdness

Does your gaming room get warm in the summer, would it bother you if the headphones you wore trapped a bit of heat? Don't want to end up sweaty with giant fuzzy cans if you're room isn't cool all year round.

Also I believe some headphones, like the BT version of the M50x, lets you go wireless with bluetooth and you can plug their proprietary jack in it to treat them like normal wired headphones if you like.

I would suggest considering the Audeze Penrose X which is now selling for $400. I understand this will give you quality audio, a reasonable mic and the ability to BT incoming calls while you game(!) The only drawback, aside from the asking price, may be the look. TBC, I do not own this headset. I'm thinking about getting it. It will soon be released on to the Aussie market. Addicted to Audio is selling it here. Note. Don't confuse this with the Audeze Penrose, which is PS compatible.

    • It's either the marketing for these are very good or so many affiliated people are pushing this across all socials im on.

  • Corsair HS70 Bluetooth - $150 or so. Just bought one, great headset

This one from creative is worthly of a look. The current promo price is really cheap for the features.

Also another option is to buy some good wall shaking speakers. Neighbours and housemates be damned.

    • But are they portable with bluetooth?

      • +1

No, the bluetooth mode only works when you attach a heavy steel chain to it and bolt the chain to your computer desk.

Seriously though, a pair of something like this https://www.harmankardon.com.au/ONYX+STUDIO+6.html will give you something around hifi quality sound with portability if you ever need to take the speakers to the beach or something. Bluetooth speakers are all grown up these days in terms of quality and sheer power. This Harman speaker may look like a handbag but it sounds like a party speaker. Sounds fine at very low volumes too.

        • I don't have a problem with bluetooth speakers, but they aren't gaming/work calls ready

Unless I want wall shaking project planning…

          • @Waffles: I have two of those handbag speakers and they aren't exactly cheap, but they work great as a speakerphone when my iPad is connected and someone calls the iPad. And I game with them on my consoles. Mostly use for music otherwise.

  • The creatives posted by genuinedude are exceptional for the $130.00 they are on sale for atm. Also free shipping.
I bought some for my son and they are hardy, good all rounders.
I may grab some more at that price.
    🤔

    • Looks interesting. Nervous about pure bluetooth for gaming though, I thought you needed a dongle to avoid latency?

      • +1

My experience is positive whilst gaming.
No appreciable latency issues that I have noticed.
In the price bracket these are atm I doubt you will be disappointed or find it difficult to match with other brands. I'm sure someone knows of something better but at $130 bucks you'll be impressed.
        The mic setup is sleek.
        Thanks for reading.

        • thanks!

    What about the Arctis Pro?

    • Tempting. Though they look to be about double the cost of similar sets. They might be worth it I'm not sure but it seems like a big outlay.
