does it make sense to still put a tempered glass screen protector, on top of the gorilla glass or is this superfluous? if so what is a reliable one with quick shipping times? thanks

I ordered Spigen brand screen protector + case from Pro Gadgets for $30. Very fast delivery and they look like high quality products but unfortunately still waiting for the phone to arrive so I can't comment on how well they fit. Allegedly they are designed to fit together perfectly.

I would look for good old film or hydrogel rather than tempered glass.
Tempered glass also cracks and if you are unlucky it also cracks the screen.
Used film from Galaxy S to 3x Nexus devices plus a few other devices and no problem. Started using tempered glass on latest phone and tempered glass got a crack.
