Sending Parcels Overseas (to The UK) - Any Suggestions?

Hi everyone
I'm trying to send a package to the UK - about 10 kilos of my baby's used clothes to a cousin there. Australia Post quoted about $198!! Does anyone know the cheapest way to send it over?

Thanks

A quick calculation using the pricing here equals $85 for 10kg to the UK.

      • apparently they have suspended their international services until further notice. Must be COVID

  • By economy sea it should be $117 to the UK

    • yeah, I thought about it too, but 3 months to get the parcel delivered is a bit much. Especially when it's baby clothes - they grow out of it so fast

      • Your cousin should just get new or second hand clothes where he or she lives - not really economical to send yours. Even if you send it by air there's no guarantees it won't be delayed by a month or two. And $198 can buy a lot of baby clothes.

        • Yeah, that's what I normally would have thought too but the clothes my child has got from his grandma are all French branded clothes. Jacadi, Petit Bateau etc. Each of his jumper costs about $150 (full price of course). She would have gotten them for about 20-30% off, given the Sales in France aren't as good as here but still, so much money for baby clothes.

So that's literally the only reason I'm wanting to send the clothes over- so we can make the most out of these clothes. $198 for 10kg of these clothes will sort of pay for themselves. But just wanted to see if there's cheaper ways to send it than to pay $198 with Aus Post.

  • Good luck getting it there.

I had International Express Post envelope that I paid $44, max 18 business days. Sent 16th Nov 2020, didn't leave Australia until 19th Dec 2020 (I lodged a query early Dec). Now it is somewhere between Australia and the UK.

Normal letters and registered post letters is 25+ business days.

Given UK is in lock down nothing other than priority post is getting through read this for laughs

You say "about" 10kg but what was the real weight on which the AusPost quoted cost was based? For "about" $198 the weight would have needed to be 17kg
    A big difference there!!

    • The weight could be based on the cubic dimensions, often carriers assign a minimum "weight" to the cubic dimensions.

      • True, but AusPost pricing for overseas parcels is purely weight based

  • Just donate them to a local charity much simpler
