Where to buy decent furniture at reasonable prices?

Where can I buy furniture that isn't "fast furniture" or trash but also not overpriced? Is there a place that sells furniture such as dinning tables that's the perfect combination of price and quality?

If there isn't a specific place then are there things I can look out to make sure I'm not overpaying or buying crap furniture?

I'm basically looking for the Uniqlo of furniture. It's not fast fashion where the clothes fall apart after a few washes but also not expensive because it's high end fashion.

Thanks fellow bargain hunters. :)

    Uniqlo of furniture

    IKEA.

    • Get the solid acacia one. It will last longer than the pine one. No particleboard / fibreboard.

Steel made could be the option as well.

      • Yup, the bottom tier of Ikea stuff will break a lot sooner. But sometimes that's fine, if a kid is going to grow out of it anyway in a few years. For quality furniture you have to pay a bit more at Ikea, and you have to look after it. If you treat it like garbage it'll turn into garbage. Also Ikea are pretty good with returns if it breaks too soon.

Second hand furniture is a great option too. If you're in a big city there are heaps of bargains. You've gotta browse regularly and be able to pick up immediately.

This. I’ve bought some of the more expensive IKEA items from op shops for like $20 and imperfectly great condition.

Where do you usually buy second hand furniture from?

        GumTree or FB Marketplace.

I think your about 10 years too late..

  • Look at the good quality brands and see if you can get them second hand.

  • Estate sales, deceased estates and buy old furniture 30+ yr old… Polish it up and it will outlast most rubbish made these days…

Unless you've got an old house most of it is pretty hideous though.

    • You could spend hundreds of hours hunting for random furniture to somehow match with each other and your home. I can see why someone might be tempted to just go to Harvey Norman and get it all over and done with in a single afternoon.

there is no real cheap solution to well made decent furniture, most is imported cheap chipboard or "weetbix" board as its called.

Older solid wood craftsman stuff is either too expensive for most or so old its not fashionable in a modern sense.
you don't say where in NSW you are but if you're in a major city I'd look in the phone directory for smaller local cabinet/furniture makers, often these small concerns pump out solid pine furniture and cabinets for local retailers

    • Thanks that's worth a shot and it would support local business.

It's a bit sad that it sounds like the world has moved on from solid furniture that lasts forever. I still remember the stuff my parents had that seemed so solid it would likely outlive us all.

These guys have the best prices i've seen on quality furniture so far.

The stuff that i bought were a couple hundred cheaper than other stores with similar designs.
