Best Gas Rates Victoria (Ausnet)

Hi! I used to be pretty good at finding the best rates for gas/electricity but I've noticed a recent trend of companies to not advertise their best offers and the only way you can attain them is by threatening to leave or being lucky enough to find them through a work/union/professional society group offer.
I'm currently paying through Click
1.7050c p/MJ offpeak
2.24211c p/MJ winter/peak
66.0176c p/Day
By all objective standards including the Victorian government comparison site is a fairly good rate for my distribution zone (AusNet).
My problem is my bills keep increasing even though my usage is extremely low (about 17 MJ P/day) it's getting to the point I'd be better off switching my hot water over to electric as currently I'm paying almost triple my electric bill for hot water and a cooktop?
I'd love to create a comparison site where the data points are very simple (distribution area, rates p/kWh or MJ, daily charge) all after whatever convoluted discount regimen is applied. Every comparison site wants to use their own formula and even when you upload a bill or provide exact data the plans and pricing they come up with makes no sense?
If you can think of a way we could create an open source energy comparison site/thread I'd love to hear your ideas. The incentives they pay out is crazy I think if we could very simply find ppl the best price and incentivised the companies to reduce commissions and increase discounts & price guarantees it would be a winner.
I think even if the site charged $10 per customer to cover costs it would still be super popular? The price gauging is getting out of control and sales people earning $100-$150 is just crazy

  • Paragraphs would help :)

  • Following, I know mine (Energy Australia) isn’t great, moving after cashback. Don’t use much gas, I moved to using aircon for heating as gas was to much.

    First 100
    2.10386

    Then
    1.51767

    0.640794 day

    After discounts

    • If I could get those rates here I'd be happy. Only 2 years ago my daily rate was 59c and I got a 21% discount. I honestly think the days of gas being economical for anyone except the heaviest of users is gone.
If I owned my place I would switch in a heartbeat, I would miss the gas oven/cooktop though.
What distribution area are you in btw?

Check every six months and move if the rates are better elsewhere

    • Yes but most of the time it doesn't even have the best plans/rates listed unfortunately.

      • Their FAQ says this. Take that as you wish.
