Help on Selecting New 27inch Monitor for Movies and Work

Hi.

Looking for a new monitor for work and occasional movies. Seeing a lot of posts that at 27inch it is best to get better than just a FHD. Looking at QHD or 4k would that be ok?

Any ideas on something that is approx. less than $400?

I saw these two that looked ok:
LG 27QN600 $399 at Centrecom
Dell S2721QS $349 at Dell

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

  • 4k would that be ok?

Some programs don't go very well with 4k on smaller monitors. You'd expect it to be fine, but it isn't always the case. So it'd depend on the software you're using, it might be something to consider.

You didn't mention what you did for work. I assume it's some sort of administrative tasks. Any monitor that fits your needs will pretty much do.

    • Thanks! Appreciate the advice! Yes, it just for outlook, word, excel. that kinda thing! thanks again!

      • Outlook, word, excell you'll be fine with 4k. You can adjust the size of the text easy enough.

I'm also in the "Get 2 monitors camp" or more than 2.

  • +1

Get 2x 24" IPS 1080p have one for work and one for movies while you work.

    • thanks.. will look into that!

  • I have the Dell S2721Q (same as the Dell S2721QS but with a worse stand which doesn't matter since I vesa mounted them anyway). It's pretty good, especially for the money, 4k on a 27" does require either being fairly close to the monitor or 1.25 scaling though, which is ok, but not always perfect. QHD is about perfect size without scaling even if you sit a little further back and I used to use that just fine.

For productivity about anything will work. It's nicer to have 4k for movies so they can be more or less pixel for pixel but to be honest it's not vital at that screen size. Gaming sometimes QHD can be better if you don't have the hardware to drive 4k and you need fast response times for competitive twitch games.

I wouldn't do FHD on a 27" it's too low res for that size, but fine for 2x 24" monitors which I used to use at work. If you have a laptop maybe the one bigger monitor, if a PC and they'll be your only monitors for productivity maybe two smaller ones (or two bigger ones!)

    • thanks for the detailed advice. really appreciate it!!!

  • Isn't Dell P2419 cheaper and better?
