So we want to invest in some quality furniture…stuff we can ideally keep for 10 years. Looking at new sofas, arm chairs, bar stools, beds e.g. Happy to pay $5kish for a sofa if the quality is there but I don’t want to get ripped off.
What brands/stores in Melbourne do people recommend? And who should I avoid like he plague?!
Where do you recommend for something less that is quality? Most of the made in Oz stuff I’ve seen is around this price point…

Try King Living. They often have 50% or so off (like that do now), which means that it will fall into your price range.

Good point. I’d love to get made in Australia but yes, definitely seen some crazy prices already eg. 12-15k for a sofa. Where as $5k for a sofa is certainly my upper limit.
You certainly dont need to spend 5,000 to get a good sofa…

i have a focus on leather recliner set (3+1+1) that was around 2.1k but only had it for about 2 years now. doesnt get sit on much (<1hr per day if any) pretty comfy, currently they have the same promo when i bought (boxing day sale) where 100 off every 1k spent (so 2k sofa would get 200 off, but plus around 100 delivery/install though) friends and family to seem to like it. something similar would be the ada leather recliner set

That sounds like a great price. I’ve heard a lot of furniture companies are selling fake leather stuff or poor quality leather stuff. Do you know where Focus sits in regard to that?
nope not on that bit, but mine and my friend who recommended me to go check out focus on (he has a leather chaise thats maybe 8 years, not sure) his leather couch still feels good to sit on, no crack/rip leather still looks awesome, not sunken spots stuff like that
best would still be go into store have a sit, maybe you can tell if the smell or the texture is off, have a chat with a rep or something.
