HP are having their final fire sale of the touchpad tablets on their eBay store. 6pm US Central time I believe will be 11am AEST. Doesn't look like they'll ship to Australia so get those shipping forwarders and relatives ready!

  • awww no Aus…? :(

  • these have an android port yet?

    • Yes, it's in alpha 3 right now. been using it, only problem I've had so far is that when you turn up the speakers, play music and turn off the screen the sound becomes all fuzzy.

  • Need to inform that warranty is for 3 months (90 days) only. Not sure if HP AUS want to take care of it.

    • 90 day warranty is typical of most refurbished items bought in U.S. (something I've tried to point out to certain OzBargainers in the past).

I highly doubt HP Australia will touch it with a barge pole.

    • If this is anything like there laptops you want at least a one year warranty.

HP AU didn't want to touch my Touchpad purchased from the US(Bestbuy). It arrived with non functioning display and the cost in shipping there/back would of ruined my bargain!

Decided to take the plunge and open it up, luckily I just had to reseat the display cable and all is good now.

In case of a more serious hardware fault though, you may be screwed.

  • So how much is the realistic price after ship forwarding is added?

  • So how much are these postage forward going to cost to ship this

    • I think people were saying the cheapest was around $35 via ComGateway & HopShopGo last time. That probably would have changed a bit now though.

  • These deals are not really available for delivery to Australia, so post will be moved to forums.

  • They've just popped up on the ebay store, as refurbished, for the mighty mediocre price of $499 for a 16gb model. We'll see…

also posted here a few days ago (so technically a dupe - but many arent looking at the CIA as yet)

worth watching CIA to get prepared for some bargains, that way you would have things lined up to buy …

    • What's CIA?

And why on Earth are people buying them for $599? http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-TouchPad-Wi-Fi-32GB-Refurbished-F…

      • The new listing price is strange. Maybe it will be lower when it's actually on sale.

        • +1

Yeah, I think they're going to lower it in 30 minutes. However, I still don't get why people are buying it for the price now. Are Americans THAT stupid?

          CIA = Cheapskate Intelligence Agency

Where predictions/ advance warning on possible deals are posted.

Next forum after the general discussions forum

Only for those really "committed" bargain hunters with cash in the bank… LOL

  • Will it be possible to ship to an address other than the ones listed in my paypal account? ie, a forwarder's address

  • https://www.bundlebox.com/invite/GB16300/ do an amazing shipping service with your very own US address. I used them to get a Kindle Fire - 60 hours from Amazon click to UK landed.

    • how much did it cost you in total? with the shipping?

  • prices are marked down now..99$ 16gb

It's crash of the day! :)

  • This deal has managed to crash eBay US's payment system… almost nobody can get through checkout at the moment. :)

  • Got 2 x 16GB using eBay UK instead (eBay US has crashed): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-TouchPad-Wi-Fi-16GB-Refurbished…

    • Clever thinking… I had two in my basket from the word go and never managed to check them out…. bollocks..hey ho!

  • I had one in my cart, but by the time it got to the checkout page they were all gone. If anyone has a spare one please contact me.

  • Got 2 32GBs :D

  • Seems HP got a lots of negative feedback complaining about the shipping cost.

    • Yeah. I hope they refund it.

      • Yup, too bad I was unable to purchase one, the ebay keep timing out :(
But look at to good side, I just save $99, but I lost $300 bargain :(

Aw, I'm so sympathetic for them, they have to pay a whole $118 for a $400 tablet…

With the current generation of tablets coming down in price in recent months and the next generation of tablets out now and more coming Q1 2012, I think I'll pass on the TouchPad and wait for a better bargain on a current gen Transformer or Iconia.

    • I'm with you on that one Ace! As a ROM flashing addict I was very keen to throw the Cyanogen Alpha on one of these. However, I refuse to pay the asking price for them on eBay and alike when I'm seeing the ASUS Transformer knocking round town @ $280(ish). I can bide my time for better prices, even for "out of date" hardware. Maniacal laughter trails off into the darkness…

I wouldn't bother at the typical prices they go for on eBay, but for these firesale prices I still think they're a steal (I got one during the first firesale, and I picked up another two here to give to family).

There might be tablets with better specs coming on the market soon, but at the end of the day the TouchPad handles with ease the main tasks I want throw at it: 720p MKVs, web browsing, reading, social networking, simple games (and even some of the latest 3D Tegra 2 games on Android). At ~$150 shipped for the 16GB, I think it's considerably better than anything else in it's price category.

  • I hope, we have a sale like this in Aus too.

    • no chance but I'll hope as well
