28 Degrees Price Protection - Is Google Store Covered?

Keen on buying from Google store. Does anyone know if this is considered Australian store? Reason is I'd like to claim price differences in the future but unsure if Google store is a permitted retailer that qualifies (original purchase)

From memory, I think 28 degrees price protection requires the purchase to be from an Australian retailer. Eg does it come with Australian tax invoice, even if it does, does it qualify?

Thanks

  • Card is now become/own by latitude, if I have the original card since 28 degree name would I still have the price protection feature?

    • Yes only if u activated it.
The features remain the same after it became latitude. But price protection needs to be activated. Which u would need to have done prior to the offer being grandfathered

      • I think I have activated.
Ok maybe will call to ask the provider

        • If you’ve had a statement issued in the past where you have a closing balance to pay, you will have a line saying “Shoppers protection” which is 1% of the closing balance.
This will be a quick way to check if you’ve got it activated (unless you’ve paid off the balance before statement issue every time).

          • @unco: I use direct debit to pay off all balance
            Ok will check later

        • If you have activated, when you log in the portal, click the insurance tab and if you have it will say

"Great news! Our records show that your Latitude 28 Degrees Global Platinum Mastercard already has Shopper's Protection insurance."

          • @MeesusEff: bad luck i dont have it :(
Credit card insurance: We are not currently issuing new policies.

should have activated long ago, i have been with the original 28 degrees for ages

It doesn't matter who you buy it from, as long as it's new. It's who you price match with that has to be Australian (not international) store I believe.

    • This is in the PDS

      How does it work?
If you buy an item in Australia with your Latitude 28° Global Platinum Mastercard and within 12 months

      And under what isn't covered:
      items purchased outside Australia.

Not sure if that means you need to buy from an Australian store, but it would be taking a risk to find out for a big ticket item. Considering that 28deg covers all Aust retailers, it really shouldn't matter where (in Aust) OP buys from, I don't bother looking at the price and just go where it's available and convenient/free delivery

      • Good point on the wording. I've always assumed buying from overseas store is ok, since they have historically been cheaper. So the Aust store you price match will tend to have an average higher price point.

I've price matched a lot from Amazon AU, which was actually from US or UK. Google Store should be fine as there is an Aussie flag at the bottom and it also includes GST in its prices. I was also considering buying the Pixel 5 from Google Store when there is a good offer, and claim price protection down the line.

        • I assumed the same, but Ive seen statements (albeit from older dated forum discussions) that Google store invoice is difficult to obtain

At the end of the day if they do supply a tax invoice with gst, and Australian abn then I would be inclined to think it is eligible for 28 degrees price protect

          • @SmiTTy: You're right, I just looked back at a couple of devices in the past and haven't actually received a tax invoice from Google. Just says to contact them to request one. How odd.

@marquise: Fyi… I asked Google. This was the response I got

1.) Kindly go to pay.google.com using the same email for the purchase.

2.) Under “Activity”, you should see a list of transactions you have made with us. From there select the transaction you would like to have a tax invoice.

3.) Transaction details will appear on the right pane for the transaction selected.

4.) Tap Download tax invoice and a PDF file will automatically be downloaded to your device

  • I've claimed from Google store in the past. Don't think I had to provide the tax invoice as they accepted the confirmation email.

  • I claimed it today for my pixel 4 5g I purchased at 799 a few days ago. I just saw today that officeworks had it for 644. Talked to Google via chat and after a while they returned the difference!

  • If your purchases attract a 10% additional tax, then it is a foreign transaction.

Well I can safely report this back now.
Bought Pixel 5 on Google Store and claimed price protection on 28 deg from Telstra. It was approved and was not asked for the invoice, but I got one anyway by contacting Google on chat. Unfortunately I couldn't double dip and claim the price drop from Google as well since Telstra are not one of their authorised retailers. They do it for Officeworks, HN, JB Hifi if the price drops within a couple of weeks from delivery.
