Also note, these are only going to me produced until March, thereafter the store will drop it and they won't manufacture any more hard copies.

    Good Price.

  • Any other Switch games on Sale or Lighting deal price they had for Black Friday. I am interested in the Luigis Mansion 3.

    • +3

Will probably be a few sales during Boxing Day… Some of those games will probably have lighting deals for $49 again.

    • DekuDeals or Keepa can notify you.

  • Anyone else unable to add it to their cart?

    • +1

Means it will be out of stock at that price. Will probably go back to normal RRP shortly.

  • +4

That feeling when a Switch game drops below $50 and you have to get it because its a bargain. Ghost of Tshushima drops to $50 and I keep waiting for a "decent" price drop…. I feel its misleading that they target this as the cheap console to parents and its by far the most expensive long term….

    • +3

it is. but the good side of it is the game holds much better value in 2nd hand market. Is like buying a Toyota.

    • +3

Is it targeted as the cheap console? It’s $470 RRP. I know next gen is really expensive but previous gen Xbox One S and PS4 slim were almost always cheaper than Switch

      • -1

        Switch lite is only $298

  • +3

    Back in stock

    • Thanks!

  • Thoughts on getting this, will the value go up that much after March?

    • You aren't investing for massive gains here. Might make $20 in a year or two lol.

  • Good price, grabbed this for a prezzy yesterday @ $65

    • +1

Might be able to chat to amazon rep for a price difference refund if you bought from them yesterday

  • Got one, wahoo! Thanks op ^.^

  • +1

Quick before they burn all those extra copies in March

  • -1

No plastic wrap when I receive mine.

    • They never came wrapped

      • -1

Called Amazon to confirm if the games don’t come sealed like couple of weeks ago and they advised they are always sealed. I also got $10 credit for calling them up for the trouble but the game wasn’t redeemed for points in the Nintendo e shop.

        • +5

Fairly sure that’s inaccurate advice on Amazon’s part. Some Switch games come shrink wrapped, others do not. It depends on the title.

          I think you got lucky.

Quite a few remarks here, although I can’t find an official stance either way online but pretty much every AU retailer of relevance has been named in that thread. I wouldn’t take Amazons service desk word on it though. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/3p8y0p63

        • +2

Carts are also not single use for the eshop points. As long as it is within a year it can be redeemed on multiple switches.

          • @festivalmayhem: Thanks for the reminder! I bought a few games recently and totally forgot you can get eShop points. It's like finding $2 on the street. :)

    • -2

Nintendo Australia have never shrink wrapped their titles.

      • Bought Mario Kart 8 yesterday from EB for a gift. Sealed

      • Bought Pokémon let’s go pikachu and evee from Amazon au. Both are Sealed

      • +1

I bought Super Smash Bros. during the last lightning sale from Amazon and it came sealed. Having said that, it's the first time I've ever received a Switch game that was sealed.

      • Not true, I’ve received wrapped copies from Catch and Amazon

      • just bought trine 4 from eb games for $9 and it was sealed

    • Mine also come with case warped from most likely delivery guy/postman having a ton of other parcels on top of it.

  • +3

They're matching Catch for those that may prefer to use the recent discounted gift cards :)

  • Thanks I snatched one at $47 with discount

    • +4

      Username checks out.

  • Do they ever come sealed?

    • Nope unless you buy from JB maybe. And then they are not manufacturer sealed.

      • How come ?

        • I would say environmental.

          • @abc: Why would jb be sealed then?

            • +2

@eckers19: They seal it themselves. Perhaps so they don’t have to worry about five finger discounts, or keeping the physical game copies behind the counter where the sales team has to find and pack them when you go to buy it.

Originally plastic box games used to be “brand new and sealed”. A sealed copy to me is worth paying more as you know it has never been played with.

              • @abc: But do Amazon games ever come sealed?

                • +3

@eckers19: Amazon ship the games as they come from the manufacturer. Sony seal. Microsoft seal. Nintendo (of Australia) do not.

                  • @Morien: That's not true. It's purely just a matter of luck with Amazon. My copy of Zelda came sealed whereas Links Awakening didn't….twice! I also got Horizon Zero Dawn for PS4 the other day, and it didn't come sealed. I complained, so they sent me a replacement, but it didn't come sealed either… First time it happened with a PS4 game

                  • @Morien: I bought 4 games from Amazon AU,1 from UK, and 1 from HK (All Switch) and they all sealed. I don't even know there are non-seal

    • Well, some people think secretly Amazon, EB, Big W and others shrink wrap with perfect and identical factory type Y-folds. Quite funny that they think EB especially would bother to do that only for staff in the shops to immediately unwrap the games to stuff into drawers. I have received perfect Y-fold sealed copies from multiple sources. I simply don't believe certain retailers would bother to randomly seal some games and not others, all perfectly factory Y-fold sealed.

      • So what do you think happens then?

Maybe Nintendo just randomly decides to seal them?

Will try to get this one sealed

        • +2

I think certain volume batches of games come sealed from the Chinese factory sealed. Best chance is early in release, but it seems Mario Kart has been sealed later in production, too and other popular games.

My reasoning is Amazon accept returns no questions. They don't give a stuff if the seal is broken. Why would they seal it? Has there ever been a case where Amazon rejected a return due to a broken seal? Never. EB wouldn't bother as they are notorious seal breakers. They pionered breaking seals to make selling returned games less obvious. EB wouldn't bother. JB do reseal games but with cheap machines and it is really obvious. Big W sell what they are given. They wouldn't bother.

          • @[Deactivated]: Ye I just really hope this one comes sealed

            • @eckers19: One other thing is if a game comes Y-fold sealed, it really is pristine and with the factory sealed feeling. No scratches or dust or finger prints. I would have to see a Y-fold sealed game that is sealed but not in perfect condition to believe it was sealed in Oz. It just doesn't happen.

              • @[Deactivated]: How do the Mario karts come then?

                • @eckers19: I bought one in the $49 sale from Amazon and it came sealed. Still is sealed. Seems 100% factory sealed to me. Cannot promise every future one will be, but you can see others report the same as me.

                  • @[Deactivated]: The previous one on Black Friday

Me too and it came opened

( wait what game are you talking about?

                    • @eckers19: MK8 Deluxe.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Ah ok

That seems to be one of the only games that are being sealed on Amazon

Just really hope this one is as it’s a limited edition

                        • +2

@eckers19: My 3D Allstars came via Gamesmen and wasn't sealed. It was an embargoed release, I think.

      • +2

Yeah I agree there’s little reason for Amazon and many others to seal them, especially if they are shipping preorders straight to customers. I also think that in many cases there’s no reason for the companies to remove a seal. It’s not like Amazon needs to put cases on display so are breaking a seal so they can store a cartridge elsewhere. Amazons all about efficiency and breaking seals for games is a waste of time that accomplishes very little.

As such I’m inclined to believe that certain games, batches or warehouses are sealing games while others are not. It’d explain why there’s mixed results.

        • So what do you think happens then?

          • +1

@eckers19: In regards to what? I said I believe different factories or lines probably output the games differently which is why some games are sealed and others aren’t. I’m assuming not every game is packaged on the same conveyor belt or factory and there’s this variance as a result.

My games also differ in that some cartridges have UK ratings on them, others do not. All are titles I purchased in AU and the external slip sleeve has AU ratings even if the cartridge does not. This ain’t universal however and some cartridges have no rating printed on them directly.

Basically, I dont think there’s a hugely consistent approach across the entire product and markets to labelling or packaging of titles and different titles are handled differently, even for a “Pal” market.

    • +2

Nintendo of Australia has never sealed their titles. I think some third parties may have (not sure), but not first party.

Sony seal. MS seal. Nintendo of America/Europe seal. Nintendo of Australia do not. Don't know why.

      • Ye it seems weird

      • Nintendo did on the Wii U and Wii Era. Shrink wrapping had Nintendo logos in them.

      • -1

And yet every switch game I have ever purchased has been sealed. If I ever received an unsealed game I had paid full price for I would expect a full refund.

        • +3

Do you buy the local releases? Unless it’s from JB i’m very surprised or you are consistently lucky.

      • -1

Not true (see my comment above).

  • This is $58 at Hardly Normal; for those without amazon prime and/or cant wait

  • Anyone agree this will go lower in price as we approach the end of life for the physical copies?

    • No. Also, it's not just physical. They're delisting the digital after March as well.

      • +1

I think we will see further sales/discounts as retailers try and clear stock around/after March.

  • Hope this is one of those time when an Amazon game comes sealed

  • Sweet bought one

  • From my experience, the first few print runs of Nintendo 1st party titles don’t come shrinkwrap. Later print runs will come shrink wrap like Mario Kart, Smash, Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing which was release back in March. Few games that were release after that this year I have yet to get them sealed like Xenoblade late May. So give it over 6 months at least after release if you want a local version sealed. Won’t help in this case since Super Mario 3D will be stopping production in 3 months time.

    • +1

I find this strange, but certainly been the case that I've observed. I got Odyssey and BotW later on, and both were sealed. But any other first party game I got on release was not sealed (from Amazon, JB, etc.). Seems odd, but seems like the way they do things.

  • What's with all the comments about "not being made after March"? I think I missed a memo somewhere…

    • +1

When Nintendo launched new games for the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., they have stated in a footnote the stock will be removed by then. No reason was given.

    • Does that mean these physical copy will be worth more in the future?

      • +2

Once the product is pulled from the shelf, there will probably be a flood of people selling to make a quick profit as there will be people who didn't know about the deadline. But it'll basically be like any "collectable", it'll be worth as much as someone is willing to pay.

  • I previously received this game from Amazon unsealed around Black Friday.

    • Yeh my copy was unsealed to. Very strange as I've received other switch games which were sealed…

      • +3

Quite possible Nintendo Australia have a stockpile of cases, so that they can just ship cartridge and coverslip quickly by air. Game companies really wanted to get rid of heavy manuals. Shipping by sea doesn't care so much about weight. It would make a big difference shipping by air. There is a chance that certain open copied batches were completed in Australia from newly printed cartridges made in China, completed in bulk generic cases in Oz. The release of this 3D allstars seemed a bit quicker than the slow sea shipping would have allowed.

        • +1

That's the most logical explanation I have seen.
Have a huge stock of cases shipped in from asia via boat.
Then get the games via air freight and quickly fill the boxes when need. Makes sense considering both a time and economic reasons.

        • +1

All games released here that are distributed by Nintendo themselves are never sealed. The cartridges are manufactured as part of the European print run (same process as back in the PAL days) and air shipped to Nintendo in Victoria where they container inserts and packaging happens.

This processes hasn't changed since Nintendo started handing their own distribution locally in 92 or 93 (before then Mattel had distribution rights for Nintendo products in Australia.

Games distributed via other channels (5%) tend to be sealed. I actually haven't come across any Switch games sealed so assume no one else is distributing them.

  • Damn… only just bought it for 58 and it shipped today..
    They don't refund the difference..
But I can return and reorder.. but wife says too much hassle

    • Try another operator, and ask if they can give you refund in credit form. This way at least you can use it towards other things. Just no cash back or cash out on Amazon credit.

      • +1

Yep, nice young lady this time, gave me a $10 promotional coupon to use on something sold by and filled by Amazon :)

        Happy with that.

  • +6

Anyone who says Nintendo titles are always sealed is full of shit.
