When/where to Buy Apple Products - Help!

Hi all - I have a shopping list and am trying to time my purchases (nothing is super urgent).
Was planning to buy
- imac mini 2020 (M1 chip) with 512 SSD and 16gig RAM with pro apps bundle for education
- cheapest ipad that can use a pen
- iphone 12
- iphone SE

any thoughts on how I can save some money?
- can get from education store
- are there like to be sales coming up (just realised I missed 10% off imac at JB's)
- the 1st 3 are for work - so need receipts (thus gumtree / ebay out of equation)

can you bargain on these products or are they in too much demand? (as you can guess have not bought many apple products before)

ADDIT - Iphones are on sale on the Qantas website!

If you can get education pricing, this is usually close to the best pricing you can get. 10% off is the maximum I've seen on Apple stuff.

  • MacMini has 8GB of RAM or 16GB RAM.

I presume you mean 512GB SSD?

    Look at:

      I meant 256 ssd , 16 gig ram

    • cheapest ipad that can use a pen

If the stylus is important to you, then maybe go for the cheapest iPad that supports the 2nd gen Apple Pencil, the iPad Air (2020)

The first gen doesn’t attach magnetically to the iPad for pairing, charging, and storage.

  • Wait for the eBay deals. I bought the 2019 ipad (with the Apple Pencil function) in 2020 this year for $329.

Alternatively buy jbhifi discounted vouchers, wait for the Boxing Day sale, and see what’s on. If not, there might be something during Australia Day.

Education pricing is usually about as good as you can do for iPads/Macs and I've never seen an iPhone on sale, but this Saturday if you take advantage of the 10% Zip cashback (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/588546) you can buy Apple Store Gift Cards (NOT the same as iTunes gift cards) and effectively get 10% off iPhones and an additional 10% off the education pricing by paying with gift cards (e.g. base iPad Air is $899, education pricing is $829, 10% cashback on $829 brings it down to about $747). There's a few rules/conditions to note re Zip cashback that's described in that link for the deal, but I did this for an iPhone 12 mini last week with no issues. Apple has a maximum of 8 gift cards that can be used in one transaction though so keep that in mind when deciding amounts and you'd probably need to buy each of your items separately to maximise the giftcard cashback.

If you're a uni student, sign up to unidays as well because they offer 11% off Macs through Apple's education store instead of the usual 10% off.

Also, these Apple gift cards have no expiry so you could buy them this Saturday to take advantage of the cashback, and then wait until Jan 2021 for Apple's Back to Uni promotions (usually starts sometime in Jan) where iPads/Macs come with a freebie of some sort which you could later sell yourself if you don't want it (previous years gave Beats headphones https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/429900 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/511059).

    good luck!

  • I'm in the same boat.

It's hard to get any non-8GB M1 without buying direct from Apple, waiting 2-4 weeks and paying full price.

All the stores seem to stock only 8GB M1 versions. Has anyone seen different?

    • I believe the 16GB models are made to order so for now atleast, they'll be full price :(

  • try applying to work at Apple and get employee discounts if u are buying half the store!

    • employee discounts are higher?

      • 15% f&f or 25% self purchase 1 per product line per year with few hundred dollar credits on flagship products

  • If you can't do education, Costco is cheaper normally if you know or are a member.
