“Stadium LED1 USB LED Light Strip (1M) ” from JB Hi-Fi

Just now started looking at “RGB monitor back-lighting”, apparently helps to reduce eye-fatigue at night.

If anyone has the “Stadium LED1 USB LED Light Strip (1M)” from JB HiFi can you please tell if it has memory function (remembers settings / colour after computer shutdown).

Thanks.

I am interested this simple one because it is powered by Computer USB port (so it turns on with computer) and cable remote (prevents chance of losing remote).
RGB is also nice since I may find a certain colour which works best to reduce eye-fatigue (gentle on eyes).

There is another similar slightly cheaper option with USB power / cable remote on Amazon AU (this one says it has memory function) but some review are very terrible.

PS: I actually would prefer if it was just a 30cm hard plastic strip RGB light, but having trouble finding one like this & it seems this flexible strip lights are cheaper.

  • Does adding more lights help to reduce eye strain? Why don't you just use flux or the inbuilt Windows app to change the tint of the screen itself?

This is adding lights on the back of monitor facing at wall. And yes apparently it reduces eye-fatigue.

inbuilt Windows app to change the tint of the screen

Yes I already have Windows “Night Light” set to run 23 hours per day (most of the day).

I also have the screen at minimum brightness.
I tried turning up brightness once because monitor makes a strange sound at low brightness, and it starts flickering / flashing like crazy if I turn up over 40%. But I use minimum brightness anyway so it is fine still works.

  • I've set up something similar, just a bit more DIY.

Warm white LED strip from Jaycar (cheap if you can find stock). Cut up an old USB A cable, connect it, plug that into the PC.

My annoyance recently with RGB is being able to see the individual red, green and blue making up the desired colour.

(Edit) I've actually got a spare 50cm warm white LED already wired and set in an aluminium diffuser I wish I could just give you.
Hopefully some of this has given you help though.

I think if it’s reflecting off the wall it will less noticeable, maybe you are looking at the light directly so it is noticeable I could be wrong.

Thanks I think I prefer getting complete product from store (warranty etc).
Yes I think the $24 price JB is asking is a bit high for what it is. I am hoping it is in some way better quality than the tonnes of cheaper options which are sold on eBay / Amazon.

Anyway main function I want it to be able to forget about it: just turns on with computer, turns off when shutdown, remembers brightness level & color settings etc.

      • Seems like you'll probably end up buying the JB Hi-Fi one which hopefully will act as you hope.

If I had to buy one from a store I'd go with the Kmart one, but I know you were worried about losing the remote.

        • Kmart one is great price for 3m, but really 3m is too much.
The extra length will just be a mess bunched & tangled behind the monitor.

          • @thebadmachine: There should be little scissor markings on most LED strips indicating where you can cut/trim it. Like this, or this.

            • @ZachBlasphemy: Yes but it is a waste, I think you can buy extra power cable to use the extra cut strips but, I think I rather buy only what I will use.
              Thanks for the tips.

            • @ZachBlasphemy: Just a update:
Another ozb user mentioned “Lytworx @ Bunnings” in a comment, and they seemed good quality.

Ended up going with this $12 Lytworx USB Neon Flex Light @ Bunnings.

Only one color but really impressed with build quality and functions exactly how needed. Had a feeling was going to keep RGB on red color anyway (easy on eyes) so thought pink was close enough (other option is warm white version).
Comes with AA battery pack + USB cable which you can choose between (uses round laptop charging type connection).

Pretty impressed for $12, uses 120 SMD LED and turns on with the computer, turns off when PC shutdown. Stays on when PC sleeps but that ok reminds you to shutdown computer.
              Also included plastic mounting things.

Only bad thing was included 3M double sided tape, fell off straight away due to heat caused by light. Used some leftover better 3M tape from removable 3M wall hooks, now mounts stay on permanent.

              • @thebadmachine: They look nice, will remember them for any future projects. Thank you.

                • @ZachBlasphemy: Yes it’s only 1M long, but having 120 LED’s it is a constant solid strip of light and does look like it’s Neon.
