[Switch] Horace - $2.25 (Was $22.50, 90% off) @ Nintendo eShop

1140

So this game only came out what feels like a few weeks ago (October 21st to be precise), has received some very good reviews (83 on Metacritic - including a 10/10 score from NintendoLife) and is already heavily reduced.

The one thing that hurts this deal from my perspective is the insanely large download size, considering its 16-bit styled graphics, of nearly 6GB.

If you have the space available, however, seems like an easy recommendation.

I bought it for my son. He said that ten minutes into the game his character was a robot and couldn't make an impossible jump. He got stuck and switched it off. I'm glad that it only cost $2.25.

Maybe you should have tried to help him rather than spread misinformation about the title.

I doubt a 15 hour game with very good reviews has a game-breaking bug in the first 10 minutes of play.

Hahahah kids always say that. I remember many moons ago I use to say it playing Mario all stars on my SNES

        Nothing is impossible

      • +1

must be impossible since his son couldn't pass what was probably the tutorial

      • +2

Some fair points. I'll have a play of the game myself and then see if I can help him get through it.

      • +2

I played it through to chapter two. There were some difficult jumps, but no impossible jumps. I think that my son gave up too easily.

It's a pretty funny game so far.

Dunno what it's like on Switch, but it's a delight on PC.

The story is Pixar-style cute-but-dark, and there are lots of visual gags and references that will pass kids by. Music is mostly chiptune classical, but there's a fair bit of original stuff. Gameplay is mainly platforming, with extra hearts if you die a lot, along with QTE minigames, some of which are unskippable.

I'm not entirely surprised a kid got stuck early, but I'd encourage them to try again.

I'll get him to play it again as I think that he gave up too easily.

I've played the game now and you are right, it is pretty cute.

  • Can you buy Nintendo eShop games to give as a gift? From what i can see, you need to create an account to buy and the game goes into that account.

    • No you can't, we've been asking since launch day1.

Nintendo's response is to "buy them a prepaid card instead".

This is a masterpiece with such low price!

  • There’s a lot of quality games on sale at the moment, worms is around $11, shift happens and a bunch of others around the $2 mark

  • "In order to continue, please access Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch console linked to this Nintendo Account."

    Blurst

    • Have you not linked to a console yet?

      • I don't own a console yet.

  • Just came to advise any parent thinking of getting this for a young kid, be aware that they do reference drug use (magic mushrooms and weed) and there's a scene where a naked man tries to jump off a roof coz he's high. I found the scenes pretty entertaining, but some parents might not be comfortable exposing a young child to them.
