Hi there guys (and girls),
I'm shopping around for a 42" - 46" TV for general viewing during dinner as it'd be in the kitchen and casual movies and gaming and I don't find a need for 3D.
I'm considering buying this TV tonight: http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/sony-bravia-kdl46ex520-led-tv-…
but before I go ahead and pull out the $800, is there a better deal I could get with $800?…The thing that bums me with this TV is the 50Hz, otherwise I would've grabbed it by now!
Cheers :)
Samsung 51" 3D plasma from this year = $800 ish, not hard to find:

or if you wanted a better series you could pay $1050:

Each come with one pair of glasses, though you said this wasn't really an issue.
For a tad smaller but LED type instead, I'd consider either of these (both 100Hz):

http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/lg-42lw5700-42-106cm-full-hd-3… (also note, this comes with a 3 year manufacturers warranty, all LG LEDs do I think)
Choosing the Samsung for picture quality, or the LG for passive 3d & 4 glasses included.
Shop around a little for a good price though, I've seen the LED Samsung above for 800ish, and the LG for 830 delivered, a decent saving on the BBB prices.
Hope this response is still useful to you a week later :P
