Any OzBargainers with a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 care to share their experience?

Test rode one the other day and it was very hard to not just buy it on the spot.

Feels, looks, and sounds like "a motorbike" as I imagine it.

Update: dw lads put a deposit on one, rip my bank account

I know nothing about bikes and have nothing useful to add, but it looks like a cool retro bike, and the sort of thing I would want if I ever got a bike (would have to be post divorce)

    • Lmao thanks for the info ;)

Why wait to be divorced! Go get one, loads of fun.

I did exactly the same. Test Rode and put a deposit, didn't even haggle. Ended up waiting a few months for delivery as this was back at the beginning of 2019 just after launch. It seems like the dealers just got a whole bunch of stock recently in so if you want one and they have floor stock I wouldn't wait. Apart from the tyres being a bit average with tram-lining I have had no issues at just over 6000km/s. I was on LAMS when I bought it but have been off for over 12 months and I can't see a reason to upgrade to a more powerful bike

I'm the admin of one of the Australian Facebook groups ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/RoyalEnfield650Australia )and there have been relatively few issues reported. Gauges misting and sometimes issues with the relays having too much Dielectric grease. A few battery failures as well. No catastrophic failures. Good community around the bike as well with heaps of help with mods and advice.

On my bike I have the RE Tall Screen, Heated grips, Aftermarket adjustable levers and I did the full YSS suspension upgrade front and back after getting a deal on a very lightly used set on Gumtree.

    • Thanks for sharing mate, that's awesome. Great feedback. I feel the same way re LAMS. If I was a sportsbike guy, maybe I'd feel differently but the RE was so fun just cruising around under the speed limit, and felt good enough on the highway.

My local has one in stock in the colour I want (red) but I need to sell my bike first. No new stock until Feb apparently…

  • Get one and convert it into a cafe racer!

And ruin the commuting and highway comfort?!? No thanks!

      Does look super cool though.

  • I got a hard-on for the REs when I was in India in February.
Had a look at the specs when I got back and on paper wasn't impressed and took it no further.

They just seemed to be gutless and heavy. That's coming from fairly gutless R80 BMW airheads.

    Maybe I should ride one.

    • You should mate.

Drives above the specs. Torque is in all the right places. Sounds good. Feels good. Weight is down low. Sooooo good.

I've got to say, they fit right in in India although I prefer the 500.

There were 3 beautiful 650s when I was down the southern tip. THey were road test bikes being ridden by journalists.

I was also in Chennai where the factory is but only found out on the last day. I would have tried for a factory tour if I'd known.

  • The seat is the only thing that put me off from considering it. Too narrow. Smaller than the RE 500. Would recommend the mods amcn and some of British motovloggers have made to make it even better

    • Agree, I thought the same on the test ride. Very uncomfortable seat for a while.
