  • oh. another shrimp post

  • Last time pegs were unobtainable, even when queuing at opening and going to multiple stores

    • Do you know of these are the same pegs as last time?

      • +2

Same - That is why warning others not to expect to get them.

    • +1

You can buy them on eBay. I imagine they're pretty similar, right?

    • Probably over 100 boxes at Croydon this morning at 9:30, so seems they have plenty of stock.

    • +1

Quite a few of Aldi's special buys lately have been arriving late or on weird days (not just Wed / Sat). According to staff at my local, it started happening about a month ago, but I noticed it about 3 weeks ago with the summer car stuff (windscreen shades / back seat window shades / steering wheel shades), they eventually came out 2.5 weeks after the advertised date (finally got the stuff I wanted this week). So I think there's another recent supply chain disruption happening, especially for special buys, and not all things, just some.

uh what makes dental floss vegan

    • +13

The floss doesn't eat meat or animal products

    • +18

      No beeswax in the coating.

    • +2

In contact with animal products the floss releases lethal dose of cyanide.

    • -2

      Must drink Soy juice

    • -3

They don't beat the poor animals when making the dental floss

    • +21

It tells you that's it's dental floss without you asking.

    • It's dental floss made out of vegans.

    • It's only strong enough to prise silken tofu out from between your teeth. Too weak for sinew.

  • +3

The pegs are everywhere on eBay. I got 75 for $15 a few months ago.

    • +4

Omfg I think my partner spent like $100 for not many of these…

      AND they suck.

      1. Because the bit you press on isn't solid (just bent wire) they (a) are easy to fumble and drop (b) get tangled into each other

      2. The size is stupid. We have small and large ones. Visually it's hard to differentiate when they're jumbled in a pile. Keeping then separated is a nuisance when using them. Only having an intermediate size would be better.

It's yet another product that reeks of not being tested and redesigned to fix it's faults. It would have been so easy to make them better.

Ebay ones/ chinese no brand rusty after a while. Chinese use the term stainless steel very loosely apparently ( I’ve read somewhere)

      • +1

Yes, I bought ebay ones earlier this year and I'm already seeing signs of rust

      • +1

I bought some off Aliexpress years ago which are still perfectly fine. Also bought some off ebay for $16 for 100 earlier in the year. No signs of rust yet…

      • +5

I believe they're made of a Chinesium alloy

      • +1

The Aldi ones use Marine grade steel which is good great for outdoors but still will one day rust.

        • without stating the grade (316 etc). marine grade is just a marketing ploy

      • don't the aldi ones come from china too?

        • Yes, the wife just got a pack to try. Made in China, says marine stainless steel.

  • +1

nylon instead of silk …. but silk is biodegradable…so you're dammed if you do/don't….
    oh,these are corn-based !

    • +25

Don't be a twat. Some vegans can be insufferable, most aren't. Your smug superiority is just as bad.

    • +15

You couldn't help yourself being 'that guy', could you?

  • +2

I got the pegs last time and they are all still like new. I would prefer them to be slightly bigger, would just make it easier to put them on and off.

  • +1

Wonder what defines " marine grade". I am assuming sea-waterproof. Curious nomenclature

  • +2

NOTE: These are clothes pegs, not tent pegs!

  • Perfect case of buying something I don't need. Thanks Ozbargain. Picked up 3 boxes of pegs on way back from dropping kids off at school.

  • Got some pegs, locally, they had plenty in stock. They seem to be pretty good. I’m thinking about using them for Sous vide.

    • +1

I think they'll still be a bit chewey, maybe pressure cooker instead?

  • I was told at Mirrabooka Aldi that WA didn't received stock.

    • I don’t think anywhere in WA got stock
      None in Hillarys
      None in Vic Park
I will check Currumbine tomorrow but I doubt it

Just the sign saying that and about 6 other items are delayed.

As a post above says it’s been happening for about a month now with every special buys several items never show up on the correct date. You just need to go fishing every so often and hope you get there before they are cleaned out on the day stock arrives.

I missed out on pegs last time, went to several Aldi’s on the Saturday but just too late, I was only able to start looking at 10am!

  • Vegan dental floss…
    Lord take me now.

    • +4

Im no vegan; but of all animals that are important, need protection, and are fairly commonly mistreated: Bees do fall into there.

Ive seen worse vegan things than avoiding wax.

Just spotted this on the aldi website:

    https://www.stockcheck.aldi.com.au/

"Enter the product name and your postcode to check if a Special Buys is in stock at an ALDI store near you.
Products can only be searched 24 hours after the on sale date."

    • Ha, it says the pegs are sold out in the closest 10 stores to me, but I assume most of them never received any stock!’

    • Said there was stock at my local one but couldn't find any, even now it still says there's stock but selling fast, as it said before

  • I haven't had a shower today and I may not have one tomorrow

  • Finally some pegs I can use to hang washing on my boat! Thanks Aldi!

  • Urban Composter just made me wonder if Elaine Bennis and J Peterman brainstormed the copy description for this ad
