18V Battery Systems (Compatible, Interchangeable, Interoperable)

There seems to be a myriad of 18V/20V battery systems out there but no resources to determine their interoperability.

I'm trying to compile a list of systems to help buyers choose tools and batteries.

I've omitted the higher end systems for now because I assume they are a close silo and are designed not to be interoperable.

Corrections, additions and modifications are welcome. Let me know in the comments.

Note: The aim is not to see which system is better - because that deserves its own thread (maybe) :)
but merely to see which tools works with which battery.

    • Speaking of Xfinity Plus, I bought some Xfinity Ultra 21700s on sale at Aldi the other day. They are longer than my old 4Ah Plus ones (though slimmer, presumably because the old ones had more 18650s), and don't click securely into my Gardenline mower or polesaw.

They are still pin-compatible, but they work their way out with vibration during use. Quite annoying to have batteries which are so close to fitting but ultimately not right.

There's an email address on the batteries so I've asked if the old shape can still be acquired, but don't hold out much hope. Seems wasteful.

      • Update: you can still get the old shape from Action Spares for $50pp.

  • Thread hijack - has anyone got a cheapish spot welder recommendation? This Sequre one looks interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgVKZzWESHc

There're plenty cheaper alternatives on Aliexpress, I had one for about $15, does the job for thin (0.1mm nickel strip) but you need a decent lead acid battery. For thicker one I reckon you pay $200 for a maletrics or kweld. Or DIY. Most of the strip on tool battery is around 0.2mm thick so if you want to go the same route expect for decent investment.
But for odd blob job it's ok to use solder as long as you sand and prep the surface properly.

I can personally confirm the interoperability of these ones:
    ToolPro 18V
    Worx PowerShare 20V(worx-australia.com)

My next door neighbour has Worx Line trimmer and a jet blower. Tried the toolpro battery on those Worx skins and they work seamlessly. Glad I tested it first out of curiosity and it worked! Cant let go of the tool pro 4.0aH AND 2aH Batteries as it was a gift from my kids.

    • Rockwell and SCA too work with Worx. I have all 3

Rockwell seem to have updated their tools - the worx batteries don’t slide all the way in as there’s a plastic section added. A little workaround needed!

          FYI for anyone interested

Rockwell fits into toolpro, but not the other way. Assume just need to take out that plastic section

  • This thread on another forum is a parallel discussion :) https://forums.overclockers.com.au/threads/18v-lithium-batte…

  • Thanks. I have 3 Worx batteries. Now on my way to get a Toolpro polisher

  • Which other 18-20v brand battery will fit Giantz garden tools

    • Worx 20v Powershare battery worked like a charm. You have to cut some plastic in the giantz mower to get the worx battery fittings properly for the additional pin.

I got a near new Giantz mower from cash converter. They said charger was faulty but the battery looked like my existing worx battery so I took the chance and it paid off. I checked and the worx battery worked (with small hack to let the battery fit properly in the giantz mower i had to make a very minute cut in the tool for the plastic ridge to sit. Later during Inspection of the giantz charger I discovered charger was alright however it was never meant for the batteries that came up with the garden tool. The charging pin was different between the giantz charger and the giantz 20v battery. So i think they cash converter had the charger mixed up with an other series of the Giantz that is why it was not charging. When I have some time I will replace the charger pin position to work with the provided battery and all will work fine.

  • So I have a bunch of older Black & Decker 18v tools, drills, polesaws, etc. (battery 244760) I was about to turf the lot.
Recently updated to the Ozito PXC 18v stuff.

Is there a chance I don’t need to chuck all the B&D stuff?? Can I simply buy or make an adaptor?

    • I found an adapter to go from the old B&D NiCad 18v tool to B&D Lithium battery (search for HPA1820 on Aliexpress). Works great. I also have an adapter from B&D Lithium tool to Makita battery (search for BPS18M). They do work together, but it gets a bit bulky. I found adapter for Ozito battery to B&D Lithium tool, but no point posting links that will go stale in 5 minutes. Search for Einhell or X-change or Ozito or EIN, and battery and/or adapter and black+decker or BPS (B&D, Porter Cable, Stanley).

      • Do you find b&d (lithium) have the same battery connectors as porter cable and Stanley? I'm looking for a b&d battery to worx tools and b&d battery to Bosch green.

  • i have a bunch of black and decker shit and its well known the company Stanley Black and Decker are the one company and they also own De Walt and Craftsman and Porter Cable..

The last two arent really relevant as they have no footprint here.

And everyone has the impression Stanley, B&D and De Walt use the same batteries but that isnt true.

Firstly De Walt uses a 5 slot battery. Stanley D&D use 4 slots.

    But it gets worse:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z3__Pf1SP0

Basically the cutout and sizing for Stanley and B&D isnt the same. So unless you get out a dremel it wont work. But then it seems like a one way conversion.

So that's that. I wouldnt invest in B&D now because they're not interesting in expanding their tool catalog. Its dead.

Someone i know was chucking out some B&D batteries. They were in a cordless vacuum that broke.

It was very easy to mod the battery to fit my Fat Max (stanley). Just cut the decorative bulge off the front and cut a small notch in the rail.

  • Anyone connect a worx/toolpro battery to bosch 18v tools?

Also same worx to B&D or dewalt?

  • Further to my issue of having a bunch of old B&D units, I found a new 18V B&D hedge trimmer on special, bought an adaptor from old B&D to new B&D and now all my old skins have a new life.

    • Do you have a link to the b&d hedge trimmer?

  • I have Ozito PXC battery and Hikoki charger. Would I be able to charge Ozito battery using Hikoki charger?

  • I have a Giantz brand 36 Volt battery and a YardForce 40 Volt battery. They are a match and work on both chargers and in a Giantz lawnmower.

  • late to the party but i have ryobi and dewalt, quick search on ebay got me a dewalt to ryobi adapter for $20 delivered with change.

works a treat and dewalt batteries charge on the ryobi charger.

  • +1

I have adapters to use Ozito batteries on Ryobi, and Dewalt type1power tools.
I have had issues using the Ozito batteries on the high powered Ryobi tools, like angle grinder.
There seems to be some feedback when the grinder trigger is switched off, to the battery which bricks the battery.
I also have an adapter from Aldi battery to Ryobi and Dewalt type 1 tools. So far no problems even with the hammer drill.
Does anyone know what sort of compatibility there is between Matrix 20V and the Aldi workzone 20V battery?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/283894044834 Ozito-Dewalt
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284908182034 Aldi-Ryobi
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/283240837343 Ozito-Ryobi

There is a downloadable stl for Ozito-Ryobi, and assembly instructions:
    https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/ozito-battery-to-ryob…

The adapters I make don't have the centre pin, so charging must be done with the manufacturers charger. If there is no issue I may add the centre pin so that the other charger can be used with the adapter.

  • Struggling to find an adapter that will allow me to use Ozito power xchange batteries on Bosch Blue tools? Seem to keep getting the opposite option with my searching on ebay.

  • Does anyone know if there a fundamental reason (preferably in dumbed down language) that there can't be adapters for using aldi/xfinity etc batteries with black & decker tools?

Or am I just unlucky? Seems to be almost every other possibility of ebay etc.

    • I found a few on Aliexpress. I use the following search: EINHELL battery adapter BLACK+DECKER

Here is the link, but it will probably disappear in days: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005669940585.html

    • probably not enough of a target market (no demand) for someone to sell them. There probably is someone that has done something at home with a 3D printer and figured out the cable layouts to do it.

Also theres also some brands that run their own controllers that optimise power delivery between battery and tool.

  • Katana- related to Kincrome. Have a 4 piece kit with 3 x4ah batteries at the moment at discount trader for $249. Can anyone comment on the interchangeability of this brand before I drop a penny on them?
I see them in a number of tool retailers and industrial/engineering supplier catalogs here in Australia.

  • Ramset 18-20V packs are rebadged V or M series Milwaukees.

  • Can i use ozito 18v oxc batteries on dewalt 18v tools? With an adapter ofc
