Free Cybersecurity Training Course at Elastic

80

Hey all,

Our team at Elastic in the ANZ region are running a new program-a first globally- whereby you get hands on training (free) from our Security experts.Throughout the program, you'll see how it's approached from our point of view and why companies like Cisco, US Air Force, Slack and a tonne of others leverage the Elastic stack for their security requirements. Upon completion of each module, attendees earn a badge too to showcase their achievement. Great free resource for anyone interested in Cybersecurity and Elastic is fast becoming a major player in this space.

Hope this helps someone/anyone looking to continue learning and build up their skillsets.

All the best on your journey. Please reach out if you have any questions or I can help.

Note: My first post- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/551769 is still valid for free training in a tonne of other areas too.

(Full disclosure, I'm with Elastic- the company behind the Open Source tech of Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats etc., and for anyone unfamiliar with the tech, we're used not just in IT Operations (Observability, logging, APM, metrics), or traditional Search (powering your search for a partner-Tinder, or Wikipedia search, or finding a driver nearby on Uber), but as you can see from this post, we're big in the Security space(SIEM/Endpoint Threat Detection & Response)

  • What's the catch? People and companies don't work for free.

    • more courses probably

    • And market share lol, gotta beat splunk to those contracts and those are worth millions if even 1 company takes em

      Hey Hybroid,

True we don't work for free(no way we'd survive or be able to support the community) but the open source world operates in that manner to a certain extent, kind of like Freemium. You can do a tonne with the open source tools, and we help enable that with the free training, and only if you find value in it and would like to get support, advanced features, etc., then you can take a look at engaging with us formally. I, like yourself, am always skeptical with free stuff but give it a shot if you think any of the courses resonate with you. Stay open source if you like, don't feel obliged to reach out or use any of the upgraded stuff.

Good luck and all the best!

    • I'd say to promote the product. Splunk does CTF events like Boss of the SOC regularly.
If you haven't heard about a product you don't try it, if you heard and then tried, you might like it and tell your boss about it and later on board might decide to buy it.
      My vision.

I prefer the security courses from FireEye and Solar Winds.

    • I'll just leave this here…https://www.itnews.com.au/news/solarwinds-orion-monitoring-platform-may-have-been-tampered-with-by-attackers-558948

That's why I left my comment.

        So also Fire Eye

      • Yeah, SW supply chain breach actually happened in spring as it turned out and FireEye happened recently (red team tools stolen), but they are open about it and they'll recover as companies do and any company can be breached eventually, if it's a serious/state actor and a targeted attack - sooner or later.

  • Didn't the first post get unpublished?

Yep indeed, that was my mistake being a newbie to this. Shouldn't have labelled it in a way that may have been misinterpreted in the title as a course by Google. My bad and I've since rectified.

  • Is any prior knowledge of the ELK stack required for these courses?

    • Hey @sessionzero not for the upcoming one this week. I've been told it's entry level so even if you haven't had experience with components like Kibana, it should be fine and a good session. All the best and give me a shout if you need anything.
