dude, 30 eligible customers only, according the shops in optus link, I doult there are more than 30 optus retailers, that means even not one E63 for one shop……

    • +4

I am sure that it meant 30 E63s for each shop.

      • +1

Yep 30 for each participating store.
"The first 30 eligible customers that arrive at the participating store will be given numbers to indicate their place in the queue."

    • +1

You think it's 30 customers overall? How would they keep track of how many have claimed so far? Have all the shops linked up online?

      • +5

They're a communications company. Of course their shops would be linked… oh, wait.

  • +6

This is a competition, not a bargain.

    Should be in the forums.

    • +4

(Genuine question - no burns please).

Where did Samsung's Sydney SII giveaway get posted? The one that somehow, oh-so-accidentally, coincided with the iPhone 4S launch.

  • +2

does it have to be an active sim? LOL

"for your chance to switch your non-Optus prepaid SIM for a Nokia E63 on Optus Prepaid"

Do you know what a game of chance is?

PS. the Nokia E61 is a piece of crap handset, for an extra $10.00 you can get the Nokia E71 with GPS and FREE Nokia maps for 180ish countrys! VoIP too :)

    • +2

The E61 might be a piece of crap, but what about the E63?

      • I had E63 4 year ago. Pretty good for a non-smart phone.
Then it crashed and I lost half of my contact numbers.

        • How would you define a smartphone? I'd call the E-series phones smartphones.

      • -1

Well played Sir. But as you can see, http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_e63-2599.php the nokia E61 and E63 seem to be the same, bar a 3.5m headphone jack on the E63.

        My comments still stand :)

    • During a previous similar offer from Optus a friend walked in and got one for himself and one for his wife at about 10:30.

Obviously some stores will go quickly others not so fast.

  • +7

Deal only available in REGIONAL Australia.

    • +1

In NSW, the closest one to Sydney is Bathurst (200km+)

  • Can't find any old non-Optus sim cards.. but I do have several Woolworths ones laying about from the current deal (half price recharge with a new sim). I wonder if they'll accept those considering Woolies uses the Optus network?

    • I'm going to assume not.

    • Just pop into woolies or dicksmith before hand and buy a $2 voda sim

      • Thanks Trance N Dance, just been looking for something of that sort.

      • -1

Yeah I think I'll do that. Just chatted to an Optus online sales rep, they hadn't even heard of the deal.

Might get a family member to get one too.. put both phones up on eBay afterwards :D

        • +4

          howdy broden :)

        • lol.. I don't think there's that many people in bathurst that would be aware of the offer, so i don't see anything wrong with doing that.. btw, i 'aint broden ;)

        • how can we believe you're not him? you already falsely advertise yourself as cityofsydney when really you are city200kmfromsydneyknownasbathurst

haha i kid man. did you manage to get any?

        • EDIT to above: Just noticed it's this Saturday - ignore me asking if you got any.

  • +1

So, wait. You take in a SIM card, any SIM card (not optus e.g. virgin, woolworths), and get a free phone.
How is this not a win? It's a promotion, sure, but most time a bargain is posted on ozbargain it's, well, ozbargained fairly quickly.

    • +1

it's not a win if you're not in regional Australia! otherwise, for you country folk, knock yourself out, freebies are few and far between…

    • I called optus today, they said that woolworths sim cards can be used, so long as as they don't have the optus branding or name on them.

  • sounds good to me, only problem now is waking up on time :P

    • +1

To drive from Canberra to Bunbury? :D.. jks good luck!

      • lol, no I'm in wodonga now (back home from uni)

Also why is it now that I can't find any old simcards, turns out dad threw out one yesterday :(

  • Can we use old old Sim Cards?

I got a stack of Old Prepaid Sim Cards laying about. However they aren't active :/

    • don't see why not. they're not going to know whether or not they're active ;)

  • not much a deal in SA, only 1 store @Port Lincoln

<55 TASMAN TERRACE, Port Lincoln SA

  • +1

should put on the title regional area only

  • +3

poor regional people have never heard of ozbargain to see this deal

    • +1

poor regional people have never heard of ozbargain to see this deal

hehe we do get internet in regional areas too you know. None of the stores near here though. It's probably more of a promotion than a bargain, given the limited number of locations, but a good score for those who can get it nonetheless.

    • +1

Poor regional people still think Nokia makes the best mobile phones (Never hear of Apple HTC Samsung)

      • yup, poor regional people like me… I have had an iPhone 3G, and iPhone 4 ever since the release date.. ;) Nokia's go by the name "Brickia" on the rare occasions I need to refer to them. :P

But jmevan is pretty much spot on, most people in regional areas seem pretty oblivious to ozbargain and never seem to take advantage of the local deals.

  • well, the one participating store is in suburban hobart so not exactly regional there :p

  • I have a couple of old non-Optus prepaid SIM cards in my drawers (a crazy johns and some other small carrier)… no credit left on either though. Haven't used them in a while… I wonder if that matters?

It says: "You must surrender your non-Optus Prepaid SIM card from your current mobile provider to one of the participating stores."

Hmm…. I hope I can get away with it! Both SIMs are still active I believe, I just have no credit on them (one I haven't used in years, the crazy johns one maybe six months ago when I brought a prepaid LG P500).

I live the next town over from Sunbury VIC so I will be checking it out if I can crawl out of bed early enough! My girlfriend has an E63 which is mostly stuffed (missing half the buttons, battery doesn't last long etc) so this would be an easy replacement for it!

  • I was number 7 at the Sunbury store…. got my new E63 :)

The only problem was that you need to know the number of your SIM card, and for those of us with those old SIM cards laying around - what the heck are the numbers! I had to put $15 of credit onto my old SIM card just so I could make a call to get the number off it in time :) In hindsight it would have been easier to just go get a new $2 SIM card from the supermarket and hand that in! $15 for a new phone…. still can't complain!

    • What time did you go to store ?

      • 8am…. even at 9am when the store was open they were up to number 24, so it was a bit slow going!

  • Number 1 at Maryborough. Woo. Got there at 7:30 and watched a movie on phone. My first camp out, chair and all. Used a $2 Vodafone Sim and they didn't seem to need a number, told them anyway. Wife's early Xmas present. Thanks Ozbargain, you're the best.

  • does anyone know how to unlock the E63 for free?

    • I don't know how to unlock for free, but the cheapest option will be to get it done in Chinatown. Lots of dealers have the hardware required to unlock it - costs about $20.

Alternatively, ring Optus and find out how long before if it can be unlocked for free - given the age of this handset, it might be sooner than you think.

      • thanks buddy..will drive down to chinatown and see what they have..or will ring optus ..

  • Bought a vodaphone simcard and gave it to them! REPEAT FOR INFINITE PHONES! n1gg3r
