Just beware new range of CPU's and GPU's coming to laptops soon - that's why this is discounted so much.

    • On the other hand, something to keep in mind is that stock for new Nvidia and AMD mobile chips is supposedly gearing up to be worse than desktop.

  • +37

Even with the discount, i personally cant justify paying anything over $3000 for a gaming laptop, paying for this thing at full price is absolutely insane

    • -6

      yeah just buy a xbox

      • +1

        ..

      • +3

        If you're joking: Haha

If you're not joking: You do know this is a laptop? Made specifically for portability, while managing to pack in that much power. An Xbox is a console, which won't support 300Hz (Like this laptop does). An Xbox is also extremely underpowered compared to this laptop, since a 2080S is quite a powerful card, even on a mobile device

        • -1

I’m just laughing at you being an (profanity)

        • I agree with you on every point except Xbox being underpowered. The gpu is equivalent to a 2080S.

      • because an xbox is comparable to a LAPTOP?

  • +3

where's the original price of $6663.73? Says $4999 in the Catch page..

  • +8

bruh this is one of those items u just list on ebay with lazy finger $5555 the same digit. There's zero reason you would buy this overpriced crap lol

    • +5

What non Windows gaming laptop would u happily pay for

    • So you'd pay $6663.73 for a MacBook Pro?

      I got a 2009 MacBook Pro at home… Wouldn't mind a quick $6663.73, hmu if you're in Sydney :)

    • This is way outta your league mate. Stick with mobile games on Apple arcade lol.

  • +13

They must've had some ridiculous profit margins if they can afford such a price drop…

  • +3

    Old rrp

  • This seems like a better deal for the Pro 17 with a 2070 for $600 less, still hugely overpriced. Agree with above comment though, no idea where you got the $6663.73 pricetag, even catch don't quote that silly old price.

    • +1

A 2080s over a non super 2070 is definitely worth it in a gaming laptop. This is way better value than Centre com.

  • +2

So I'm with the chorus, too expensive don't buy it, but there must be a market for this device, otherwise it wouldn't exist.

But who is this for? Ignorant suckers that just have lots of money and/or little sense? It's a very expensive laptop.

    • +2

Exactly the market you pointed out. Dads that shop at Harvey Norman and get suckered in to "frag out with their kids" by the sales guy. Usually some merchandise (e.g. free shirt and cap) will be thrown in to make it feel justifiable to spend that kind of money for it.

      • +1

        Wow

  • +12

Am I the only one that thinks $4000 should get you more than a 512GB SSD? That's what you get in a $1200 gaming laptop…

  • +3

Featuring a huge 17.3" display integrated with either a Full HD or UHD screen

    Helpful product listing.

A google search of the model number says 1920x1080.

    • +2

Yup. Also those who are interested, it comes with 2080S Max-Q, not the full 2080 Super.

Those who are interested at desktop-replacing laptops, Alienware 51m may be another over-the-top, but excellent alternative.

      • +1

I've returned 3 Dell laptops this year one being the Alienware M17 R3. After my experiences with all three, cannot in any way, shape or form recommend Dell in it's current state.

I've had the Advanced Razer Blade 15 since I returned it, and haven't had a single issue (yet).

        • That's unfortunate, I know some of mid-range Dells had some quality issues, but their XPS lines and Alienware I had never had any issue.

I've owned Razer Blade Stealth (2019) myself, and I agree the quality is top-notch, but their customer support is just horrible, I would not buy anything from them directly, and may be a retailer that will help with any warranty issue (e.g. Amazon, Microsoft, etc).

          • @aveeno bb: Mine was the Xps 15 / 17 this years Gen.

Xps 17 had issues where it would turn on while the lid was shut and cook itself, the ports didn't work with my ssd (ssd would work with other computers), and some screen issues.

The Xps 15 came with screen tearing straight out the box

The AWs control centre took 2 weeks of Tech support to get working, had issues with the ports again but overall was a good machine… Just would overheat too much in actual gaming.

I've heard razers tech support is a nightmare so here's hoping I never have the pleasure

            • @Ruddaga: For me, Razer support just keeps repeating the same question as if they've never heard my issues before. It's almost like they are hoping I will just go away if they pretend they don't know what's happening.

              • @aveeno bb: Should just start throwing around the term ACCC and consumer trade laws. Under Australian law, a piece of equipment is expected to have a natural reasonable shelf life. If your laptop is dying in under 2-3 years, you could probably argue that's too soon and they'd have to replace it. Might be a bit of mucking around but its the one of the good things that is hugely on our side in this country.

You could build a beast of a PC for this price that's insane for a laptop

    • Can you put a beast of a PC in your backpack?

      • +1

Fair enough, but have never been desperate enough to limit myself and game on the go never seen the point unless you travel for work and don't really have a home to go too ..

Who really wants to be hunched over a small FHD screen struggling to look at it

        • -1

Good for if visiting parents etc. My mum lives 3 hours away so I normally stay for a while, good for while she's at work or in bed etc. Hate not having some entertainment.

      • Do people really want to game on a 17" laptop?

        • I guess 17" is bigger than 15"?

    • +4

For this price you could hire a beast to carry around your much cheaper desktop.

  • -1

was about to upgrade from my hp omen 9750h/2080 to this but the fact that its a maxq trash ruined the deal for me

  • +2

I would prefer those budget Apple products instead.

    • What game could you be playing on those Apple products?

  • +2

Inflated RRP giving a false grab at a ridiculous price point. It's ok as is but nothing screaming massive bargain considering new releases in coming. Boxing day in a few weeks will yield better options IMO

  • +5

    Lol @ was price

  • +10

Way too overpriced at $6666. The deal itself shows $4999 as its price. Though a steep discount but should wait for the newer graphics cards with better thermals & temps for better laptop performance.

    • +3

Even at 3899 it is still overpriced.

I bought my second hand 1080 laptop for less than 1/3 the price and it has better performance than 2080s max q.

This is ridiculous that a four year old laptop at 1/3 the price has better performance.

  • +2

    Why so many + votes?

    • People that can afford it.

      • But there are better deals?

  • +4

    This is not a bargain

    • -8

Feel free to share your deals;)

      • +1

        Thanks

  • +7

    Old tech, old price

  • +5

This thing SCREAMS of thermal throttling and overheating components, especially in Australian summer.

DO NOT BUY SLIM GAMING LAPTOPS, unless you are masochist or something and enjoy torturing yourself.

    • my Razer Blade works just fine in the heat. https://bit.ly/2IJN1Tt https://bit.ly/2KqNVEP

      don't mind the sunscreen marks.

      • sorry you pictures just come up as a gray STOP sign, maybe just upload whatever to imgur?

Tho I would be REALLY surprised if this thing can keep both the CPU and GPU running at full speed for sustained periods of time (without overheating or underclocking automatically)

  • Found this for $3499 with similar spec (and even that's expensive for previous gen) https://www.pccasegear.com/products/49891/gigabyte-aero-17-c…
    Not a good deal

  • Will this help me crunch my excel vlookups quicker?

  • Thanks OP, a stunner of a beast! Kensington Lock sounds great but it is usually just a hole, less plastic! Is there a Kensington free laptop?
Power port? Well i7's take juice. Prefer to know if it actually can jump onto my 5GHz wireless. Blutooth version up to date? I bet the crackle 3.5mm is!

Anybody had this for long enough tho have the fan just speed up because the blades built up dust?

  • so overpriced , guy pls wait for new generation if you can.

Just not buying will push these nonsense pricing to drop sharply but i know my points will fall on deaf ears….loool

  • -1

About three months ago I purchased an Alienware Area 51m for the same price with 300hz, 2080s, i7 10700, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd and a upgraded warranty. I really can't see why this is so expensive. I'd like to point out my experience with laptops is they don't tend to receive new hardware for at least six months after it has been announced for desktops. As we are in CCP Virus times it's going to be long wait before we are even able to purchase anything that has been announced.
