“It is a bottle of spray”
“Also a piece of clot”???
Why do people buy this crap huh?
Using a hard surface on your phone like that gotta be bad. Anything on it is gonna scratch the hell outta ya screen.
I just posted this coz someone tried to post in OzBargain under the name of Mist Screen and was charging $15USD for it and I knew I had seen it before.I unno, reminds me of the window tinting applicators with a plastic wedge on one end and a microfibre cloth on the other end so you don't scratch the tint when you burnish it.
The original premise of this (rather feeble) post has (very rapidly) run its course, so I would like to respectfully hijack it in order to focus on a much more serious question:
I reckon that when someone has been ripped off, they have been 'JIPPED' … not 'GIPPED'
But I would be happy to stand corrected on that …
Sorry for amusing myself at your expense ;P
I cant spell and your right, hope you amused yourself ;P
No apologies required Pez-meister … I live in a constant state of amusement that is so intense that often-times I wonder how I maintain any degree of sanity/rationality at all.
Aaaany-hooo, 'happy trails' and all that …
CORRECTION: GYPPED
gypped: simple past tense and past participle of gyp
gyp: a pejorative and sometimes offensive word for cheating or swindling.I believe it comes from being cheated by gypsies who have a reputation for stealing and ripping people off. Perhaps now those gypsy jokes in Borat make more sense to you.
See also: Romani (…yep, referenced in Life of Brian).
And these days Romani people, especially in Europe where there is real prejudice, don’t like the expression as they see it as a racially motivated slur.
I think it is interesting how words evolve and change. I am sure OP had no interest in offending Romani people with this post.
It was similar when I described the touring Pakistan cricket team when I was living in the UK as the Paki’s, which is extremely negative in the UK, but just an abbreviation here. This makes perfect sense and never occurred to me, even tho I do know what a gypsy is.
Ill try not to use the term anymore. I dont like using racially charged words like this if it might offend some people.
Thanks.@PAEz: I'm going to try and use it more often. I hate the way the English language has been hijacked by bleeding heart raving pinkos, who purport to represent the interests of other groups, without ever actually consulting those groups. Has anyone asked the gypsies if they are offended by the term 'gypped'? To me the gypsies seem quite proud of their capacity to lighten the pockets of gullible idiots, and they make no efforts to conceal it. Just watch that brilliantly made documentary 'Snatch', and you'll see exactly what I mean. Actually, that documentary should have been called 'Gypped'.
There's also broader things to consider. For example, a bunch of Indians have run a large restaurant on the main drag in Richmond (VIC) called 'Curry Munchers' … so, because they're doing it, surely it would be a double standard for them to take offence at me calling them 'curry munchers'; at least inside that restaurant. 'Yo curry muncher, can I have the bill please?' … That type of thing.
I do draw the line somewhere though, and that is with a new ad that has just come on the telly recently. It starts out by passionately declaring that 'The world needs more gooks'. A few are subsequently featured in the ad, making food and stuff. The word is repeated about three times in the ad, which is weird because I recall that it used to be considered a highly offensive word. When did that cease to be the case? Next time the cops ask me who it was that sold me the unauthorised pharmaceuticals on Swan Street, is it now considered politically acceptable to say something like 'aw you know, just some gook'? I think not. Someone should complain about that ad.
@GnarlyKnuckles: eeek, replied in the wrong spot, reply below ;P
@GnarlyKnuckles: The restaurant at 77 Swan Street Richmond is now Sisters Of Soul - Exclusively Vegan
@Baysew: Good god, what a dud swap that is. As if there isn't enough joints exclusively serving utterly unpalatable rabbit food to malnourished looking legions of the great unwashed in Melbourne already. Personally I think that now that the pandemic is over, Curry Munchers will soon return. Everyone knows they are a persistent mob. I certainly hope they come back, because I loved that joint. The food was pretty crap, I loved it because of the name.
@GnarlyKnuckles: Thing that cracks me up about joints like that is we dont say we have good food its just good for the environment….
People choose to become vegan / vegetarian for all manner of reasons – compassion, environmental and health – whichever it may be, we highlight how wholesome, nourishing plant based food can be without having to harm other sentient beings.
…..but certainly not because it tastes good. Thats on their homepage ;P Now if it was Indian vegetarian, some of that taste damn good.
@PAEz: Absolutely right Pezmeister … the Indians have the best vegetarian food around, hands down. I suppose it's partly because in India, with its billion+ peeps, a lot of them can't afford much if any meat (all those 'sacred cows' rampaging about with gay abandon as though they own the place must be … erm … 'a mite frustrating' LOL) … and it's probably been that way for hundreds of years, so they have well and truly mastered the art of making veggies actually taste good. In many many diverse ways too. If I had to stop eating meat, the only thing that would stop me shooting myself instantly would be Indian food. Similarly, if someone invited me to a dinner or any sort of catered event that was 'no meat', I would only attend if it was Indian food. Even if it was free; and that's really saying something, because I'm a major tight-ass.
@GnarlyKnuckles: hehehe, whats with the Pezmeister ?
@PAEz: I don't like 'PAEz' … it reminds me too much of nausea-inducing little green balls that taste like mouldy dust. But if you don't like 'Pezmeister' I'd be most happy to refer to you as 'Pez-wix'.
@GnarlyKnuckles: hahaha, what ever amuses you.
I think gypped could go either way, so why take the chance. But I get what your saying. Its like people on the net trying to get a rise outta me by calling me a convict, like I care.
Curry Munchers, I think comes down to intent. In this case Im sure their just having a laugh, but if you where to try and insult someone by calling them that they probably would take offense to it. I once had a lot of contact with italians. As a lad I was homeless and they had me couch surfing from one house to the next (people who didnt even know me). I use to say things like "Is he a wog?" and no problems at all, they use it themselves…..first day I went to Thebarton high school I saw "wogs rule" written on the toilet wall. But call one a greasy wog and see what happens.
Gook as far as I knew is a damn offensive word. Once my grandad used that word and I pointed out its not nice and he said "Thats why I use it, theres no word they dislike more.". He was in some war and his mates where killed by them so hes got a bit of a problem with them.
And yeah, Im also sick of everybody looking for every possible reason to get offended and create lines to create division. I like to code for fun. Recently the words "Slave" and "Master" where removed out of a lot of source code (after buttloads of hoha ) because apparently it might trigger some people to get hurt. Really? Oh come on. Once again, its intent and context. But we have to cater to the precious delicate little flowers.
OK
