Where can I find smoke wood around Footscray or inner city suburbs? The only places I know are Bunnings and BBQ Galore.

I use freshly cut wood or older dry wood from my fruit trees.
Any stone fruit tree, apple, pear, cherry tree will do probably not use a citrus.
nice smoke flavor in the jerky i make not bitter at all, just wish i made more and it could last longer than a day lol.Oh I didn't know this, I know someone has a peach tree.
How does the taste differ between smoking with freshly cut vs dry wood?Freshly cut does not need to be soaked in water it seems to work better and adds a nice flavor.
My favorite wood for flavor is hickory it seems sweeter all the other fruit trees add the smoke flavor with their own distinctive flavours.
Dry wood has a chance of a flame so i use that first to assist in charcoals then prune some fresh wood in for the smoking some times a small amount of leaves are left on the freshly cut branch
Don't over do it just keep a low steady supply of smoke throughout the cook as i find over smoking adds bitterness
Cruise the streets on hard rubbish day? You might get some IKEA birch.
Weber store near Highpoint.
