Cancelling Automatic Payment for Online Service

Hi,

Just a question re cancelling an automatic reoccuring payment (via paypal) for an online service (newspaper).
I have cancelled it in paypal so it is inactive, and have emailed the business and they said too late to cancel for the next month, but have cancelled my subscription and will charge for the next 28 days then it will be cancelled fully.
Can they take money out of my paypal if it is not setup for active/automatic payment?

I just think they are trying to get more $$$ out of me before I leave.

Cheers

Nope, unless you give them your CC details outside PayPal when you signed up.
Make sure you check every single one under Active: https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/

    • Haha, damm, when i initially signed up I used credit card. Then just recently changed payment method to paypal and cancelled the automatic payment as I was hoping this would "beat them". Looks like they win.

Not really, if they charge your card against your authority you should issue a charge back.
You removed that as your payment method, so they aren't allowed to charge it.

Thanks for that, so many people would get caught out though and just not worry about it. Thus the big guys win again.

Unless they've charged you or delivered an item from the next cycle it's never too late to cancel. Not your problem they can't use computers properly.

  • Shutterstock won't let you cancel, even if their terms says you should be able to in certain circumstance, never use a card directly with them. That's probably why they don't take paypal.
