Electric Shaver $150

Any suggestions for a $100-$150 electric shaver? (And do you use/like it?)

Tomorrow there's a ebay "deal" for the "Braun Series 6 Wet & Dry Shaver - $129 (was $189) - 200 available."
Does anybody have experience with this one?

How does the ebay version compare to the similar priced version on Amazon with prime?
Is this the same but just different colour?

Braun Series 6 electric shaver for men features a dermatologically tested SensoFlex swivel head and SensoFoil blades that enable low pressure adaptation for closeness, whilst remaining sensitive on your skin. The Li-Ion Battery provides up to 3 weeks of shaving and a 5 min quick charge. This men's electric razor is 100% waterproof for Wet & Dry use. Compatible with EasyClick system. Precision Trimmer attachment included. Box includes 1x Series 6 Electric razor for men - Blue 1x Precision Trimmer attachment 1x Travel case 1x Smart plug for automatic 100-240 voltage adjustment 1x Cleaning Brush

(Price is in USD, but converted roughly same price as the ebay deal, if you have prime. Still wondering if this is worth it …)

Should I just jump on this ebay one, or do more research?
I normally use foam and a razor, but thought an electric one might be handy for those times I want to be quicker.

  • Electric shavers won't shave very close, doesn't replace a razor for when you need to look nice and tidy. Just makes the beard very short to stop it getting annoying when you can't be bothered to shave properly

  • I'm using a Philips one I got at $120 a few years ago. I like it, though the replacement heads don't come cheap at $50 a pack.

Honestly, I suspect most shavers in that price range are pretty similar. Just catch a sale and you're good to go.

Personally speaking I've used practically every "style" of electric razor (since I hate shaving with a passion) and I'm currently using / very happy with the Philips OneBlade: Amazon, $48.95. Close enough / tidy enough for a clean shaven appearance, extremely quick to use, and absolutely no irritation. Replacement blades generally run around $20/ea (depending on where you buy / multi-packs) from but you can find them on special.

    • How long can you use a single blade before replacing ? How it feels with minimum length of 1 mm ?

Smooth enough to the touch, but I’m not that picky.

I get multiple months out of a single blade, but I don’t use it every day. I think they say 4 months @ 3/use a week? YMMV.

          Thanks!

        • How does it compare to Durablade (which claims same blade lasts 5 years) ??

Just bought a OneBlade on your recommendation - I've been eyeing it off for a while, and the price looks good!

Have now tried it out, and I love the OneBlade! Does exactly what I need, closer shave than the other weird electrics I had lying around.

      No nicks!

I was hoping you'd be back with some thoughts, glad it worked out! One(Blade) of us!

It really does feel like I've joined a cult of some sort.

I think I spent about 3 hours the other night watching videos of a guy shaving half his face with a OneBlade and the other with safety razor and other electrics.

          ALL HAIL ONEBLADE!

  • I prefer the design of Braun shavers. My current one uses a NIMH battery and I get about 140 mins running time. The latest Brauns use a Li-Ion battery that has a 50min running time. Not sure if I'd be happy with having to charge it every three weeks…

  • Thanks for the inputs. I'll do some more research after work and look at the other mentioned models/reviews.

  • That's a great price for the series 6, i picked up the series 3 wet and dry for ~$100 and tbh love it, if i had it again i'd get the next model up though. Came from a philips rotary shaver that lasted 13 years. Honestly cannot go wrong with the braun's

GF thinks the ebay deal looks like a good deal, and that I should take it. (Otherwise I keep on doing research for the coming months, and end up not buying anything …)

Philips OneBlade for $50-70. Replaced my $300 Philips and it's much better!
