  • The air fryer one seems to be $309, which isn’t the cheapest it has been but seems to be discounted
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Instant-Pot-Multi-Use-Pressure-Sta…

If you have prime this comes to $278.91 at checkout.

    • I was deciding between the duo crisp and Nova but bought Crisp and Air Fryer in 30th November and it was $269. So has been cheaper. And on top of that there was cashback too.

      • What do you think of the crisper version?

      • Is the $5 difference coming from the $5 Amazon gift card credit. Pls check Demux.
I added to the cart and it’s 142.11.

  • Can this be used as a slow cooker? Is the stainless steel pot inside durable and better than the non-stick ones?

Also since the 8L is only a couple of bucks more, should I just get that one. Its for a family of 4.

    • +1

It can do slow cook as its got a slow cook setting. There are other preprogramed settings like soup, stewing, steaming. If you look at and zoom in the first picture on the amazon listing you can see the preprogrammed settings. Which you can make slight adjustments to suite what your trying to cook.

    • +1

8L pot is for a family of 8 people.
Probably for a family of 4, the 5.7L will do.

    • +3

Get the 8L one, you can fit more ingredients with a larger pot. We can fit a whole chicken with room to spare and veges too.

    • If you are using it as a slow cooker look around at the settings. “Low” is more a keep warm setting than cooking.

    • +1

The bigger the pot, the longer it takes to reach pressure. If you are making large meals then 8l is good, also for versatility. But pressure takes time and larger pots take longer.

      • +1

I have a 5.7l. If I’m making soup, I heat up the stock before I put it in and this seems to shorten the time to bring it up to pressure.

        • +1

But you can heat it up in the pressure cooker. I'd say what you're experiencing is not a shorter time to pressure, just a shorter time after putting it into the pressure cooker (unless the nova is a bit under powered?).

    • I have a family of 5 and 5.7L is more than enough for us now. If you cooked stock in it all the time then 8L might be a good choice, but for daily roasting/pasta/rice 5.7L is definitely enough.

    • The 5.7L is also the more "mainstream" size, which mean the vast majority of accessories are made for that size.

    • +1

      def get the 8L
you can always cook less but you cant cook more in the smaller pot

great for doing soups as well

    • Also note the 8L pot has a bigger footprint and most recipes area for the 5.7L (or 6 Quarts). So I had the same dilemma and went with the 5.7.
Many people complain the slow cooker is much crappier than a standard slow cooker as only the bottom heats up not the sides. So you have to do it for much longer. Basically don't bother slow cooking when you can pressure cook MUCH quicker.

      • It does a great corned beef. You do the meat, put it aside to rest, and then do the veggies in the same spiced “water”; only takes a few minutes. We usually have leftovers so I keep the “water” in a container until the next day. We then do some more veggies, with slices of meat, in the “water”. Quick leftover corned beef and veggies.

    • +2

I use the 8L for family of 4. Generally cook extra, portion, vac seal and freeze for lazy day meals.

Haven't noticed the extra time to heat up mentioned above but have nothing to compare it to.

Again, no issues with recipes written for different sized cookers. Also means extra space for pot in pot cooking.

  • Does anyone have a screenshot of the price at? $122.71

Edit: price in cart is just showing 10% off only.

    • How did you edites your own comment? I can't edit when i tried. Genuine question.

      • can only edit if no one has replied to your comment yet.

      • Like the guy above said, you can only edit if no replies. To edit, just click on the "edit" button below your comment or the 3 dots on mobile I believe.

    • There's no markings for rice cooking, but I found adding water just enough to cover the rice gives me acceptable results.
    • Cooking rice is also troublesome as the rice sticks to the stainless steel bowl. Therefore, I bought the 8L non stick bowl on Amazon to cook rice but rice still sticks to it.
    • Now I only spray oil on the stainless steel bowl before I cook rice. Then let it sit for 10 mins after cooking which turns out not bad.
    • My old ones rice setting was garbage.
What I found worked for me was low setting for 10 or was it 15 minutes and then let sit for at least 10-15 minutes…..basically a lot of the asorbtion is done in the letting it sit time.

    • Apparently the Ninja does rice very well also depends on the type of rice used.

    • I haven’t tried it for rice but have you tried getting a ceramic/stainless steel bowl and doing it as pot in pot using the trivet. We had trouble with sticking when we did porridge so we now do pot in pot for that. We, also, do pot in pot for Yogurt.

      https://www.pressurecookrecipes.com/instant-pot-pot-in-pot-r…

    • I’ve had no such issues with just the normal stainless steel bowl. Equal number of cups of dry rice and water and eight minute cooking time does the trick.

      • Yeah but I rinse my rice so there’s always residual water in the rice

    • +1

As has been said, I use the "pot in pot" method for rice. The cooking times are slightly increased (because the second bowl also needs to heat up which draws some energy and slows down the process), but it's super convenient to have the rice cooking in a bowl. From memory my brown rice recipe is 5:4 water to brown rice (by weight) and cook on low pressure for 20 mins and then let it reduce pressure naturally for like 10 mins. But this could be a bit off because it's been a little while since I've done it.

And the 7cup round pyrex bowl or 6 cup decor bowl are a good fit for the 5.7L instant pot. Both are available from Colesworth for around the $10 mark. And I like the silicone trivet by Oxo that you can get on Amazon.

Uncle Roger suggests buying a Tiger rice cooker. best thing since…well, rice.

      • "spray oil on the stainless steel bowl before I cook rice" Hiyah!

  • Only taking off %10 now, the 5.7 is $127.71.
Still a great price! Bought one!
Been looking for a new pressure cooker and this one sounds good.
    Thanks OP.

EDIT: Ending up cancelling after reading reviews. The burning warning problem makes it sound like it might not be good for the way I use it.

    • What burning problem?

      • Click on the 1, 2 and 3 stars for reviews and youll see a lot of people complaining about the burning warning coming up all the time. One person even said they got the warning just trying to boil water. Personally Ill get put off of a product if I see a consistent problem coming up again and again. Problem with a problem like that is youll have to restart your cooking again and this is a problem because your food will have already cooked a bit so if you start again it can come out to cooked. Sometimes with my old one I would get something like this if I didnt use enough water and it was a real pain. My fault tho coz I used less water than your meant to alot, I liked using just something like a jar of Pataks with no water ;P….you can get away with that ;P but no less than a whole jar.

        • Using pressure cooker to boil water? That's certainly interesting.

General rule for all pressure cooker though; need minimum amount of water for safety reasons

          • +6

@Scythic: Need a minimun amount of water to create a certain amount of pressure. Doesnt have to be water tho just liquid. The main thing I used in my presure cooker was coconut cream and I could get a way with half a can on low setting. Half a can of coconut cream, couple of desert spoons of Amyan Panang Curry Paste, chicken, asian greens and 5 slithers of Carolina Reaper….Yum! Lived on that till I broke my cooker :(

    • +2

I haven’t had a burning warning problem with this one. There did seem to be a problem with a different version.

      • +1

Same here. Ive had mine since Amazon release it here and I constantly use it each week without issues.

        • hehe, ok you two convinced me and I reordered it.
Not seeing any mention of it it here with owners and the price is great, so Ill give it a go.
          Thanks for your input.

          • +1

@PAEz: Will be interested to get your feedback on using it. Don’t forget the water and if you do get sticking problems look at pot in pot. We use pot in pot for our porridge and Yogurt.

            • @try2bhelpful: As long as I can do that recipe I put above Ill be very happy. Miss it so much. Doing it in a saucepan just isnt the same, the pressure cooker made the heat and flavour of the Reaper get right through the whole sauce and ya dont have to stand there stirring.

              • @PAEz: Will be interested to see what you think. Enjoy.

                • @try2bhelpful: Cooked my fav meal in it twice now.
All in all I like it alot. The only problem I have with it is the low setting isnt as low as my last one.
First night I did 8 minutes and the veggies where well over cooked. In my last one that would have resulted in just over cooked, not as mushy as this one (I can like my veggies a little overcooked, not this much). Second night I did it at 3 minutes, would be about the same as 8 minutes on the old one. The second one would be in part because I waited 8 minutes before releasing pressure and opening it. Tonight Ill see if it can go down to 1 minute and will be releasing the pressure much earlier and hoping that doesnt destroy the veggies. You seem to have to wait longer on this one before the pressure subsides, five minutes is all it took on the last one. But this is my only complaint and could prolly be worked around. Noticed the idea of a pot in pot which Ive never done before, closest would be porridge that Id do straight in the bowl I eat it from. Just got to find the right pot. Figure this would help a lot as you dont have the extra heat on the base from the element.
Other wise the construction and features are excellent. Love not having to remember to make sure the pressure seal knob is on. Love the release mechanism for it aswell, my old one was scary and Id use a fork to make sure it didnt spatter on me. The display is much easier to read than my old one. Buttons are easier to press. The added plastic on the lid will stop it deforming if its dropped. The inner bowl is much heavier and sturdier than my old one so hopefully less inclined to warp if its dropped (thats how I wrecked my old one). Plus its not non stick, which always kinda bugged me on the old one. And it did contain two rubber seals, noticed a few complain it didnt, mine did.
All in all Im very happy with my purchase and would recommend to others.

Now to copy and paste that as a review on Amazon ;P

                  • @PAEz: For the pot in pot Yoghurt we use a Pyrex bowl, because it has a plastic lid so we can store it in the fridge. For the porridge we use a Corningware French White ceramic casserole. If you have a DFO, with a corningware store, it is worth having a look there. I would play around with the options for the veggies, it does cook them very quickly. It makes really good corn on the cob as well. For the release valve I have a silicon mitt, I use, to avoid burning myself.

For the pressure the main issue is “foaming” so it you aren’t doing “legumes” you can probably release earlier. However, make sure you have it under the exhaust fan. I put a wooden chopping board on top of my stove and sit the Instantpot on that so I can vent the steam straight out.

I’ve yet to try making a cake but I have the right size cake tin now, just getting up the nerve to use it.

              • @PAEz: Have you got it yet? If so what do you think about it?

                • @try2bhelpful: oh my god, Im typing it right NOW ;P
Cant believe you asked me as I was typing it.

For people who want the Sous Vide version. Costco has that version for $160, at the moment. Costco has the advantage if you don’t like it you can take it back within 90 days.

  • Ffs… I bought this 2 days ago. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • Mine just been delivered to me few days ago and I have cooked with it. So annoying :(

      • I received mine couple of days ago and opened it, never used. What to do to at least get this price? Do I email them and ask for like price guarantee?

        • You could do that or buy the new one and return it against the old one..?

  • +2

I highly recommend these cookers. I now use the 3L instant pot as my primary rice cooker and often cook dishes & soup. I would definitely get a 5.7L version at this price if I haven't got another 5.7L pressure cooker from another brand because of the price.

I highly value these pressure cookers and I think every kitchen should have these!

    • +2

Only yesterday I received my 3l pot and tried out the "rice" program on 2 cups of rice.

I'm yet to discover the value of this pot, I guess, because so far what I've experienced is cooking time of about 30 minutes (!), because the pot needs to warm up/pressurise (takes 5 mins or more - it doesn't show the timer while warming up), 12 mins cooking time, 10 mins standing before serving. The same process takes me about 20 mins on a cooktop and still feels less complicated. Not to mention using a typical rice cooker (even easier and less messy). The texture of rice from a pressure cooker is completely different and it's great. But like I said, I'm yet to discover the conveniece of this device.

I can see how a separate lid would be useful to avoid covering it with the standard clunky lid each time you want more rice or whatever you cooked.

Also note the 3-litre version can be filled up only with 2 litres of content or, like the warnings says, 1.5 litres of lentils, groats/cereal or other "foaming" food. Otherwise you can block the valve. I guess (and only guess for now) for slow cooking you can fill it up with 2.5 litres.

    • I've just measured - it took almost 8 mins to warm up/pressurise with a 1.5 cup of rice inside, then it started showing 12 mins cooking time (Rice: normal, pressure: low).

Not a big issue, but I also wish the LEDs on the buttons were visible in bright light. Like, in daylight.

  • Anyone who bought last week that managed to get credited the difference? I tried and got told "We work hard to find the best prices out there and make sure our prices are as low or lower – changing our prices instantly if we find a lower offer somewhere else. Therefore, we don’t offer post-purchase adjustments."

    • I want to get the difference too! Received mine couple of days ago.

  • Thanks OP.. Hope the wife likes it for her Chrissy prez…

  • Mine is still at post office awaiting collection, should I just return to sender and repurchase?

    • That's one odd question.

If you paid $200 for the one awaiting collection, then repurchase.

I have checked again and seems like its the $5 gift card promotions from previously. Sorry guys.

  • Mine just got delivered yesterday, bought the 5.7L for $141.9 still in the box. Instead of sending it back would they refund the difference?

    • I received mine yesterday too!

    • I received mine two days ago and it's still in the box, I talked to them through their online chat and they refunded me the difference.

      • Excellent!! Thank you

      • Sorry but where is their online chat?

        • They just replied my email, no refund or store credit :(

    • I asked through chat and they ended up giving me a $15 promo credit for my next purchase. Pretty happy with that instead of returning it back.

      • can you pm me chat transcript or even a reference number? Mine got refused :(

edit: Or could you possibly tell us what you said to get the credit?

      • Hey I had success as well but not too sure how it works. Does it appear as Amazon Gift card balance for you? If so, how long did it take for it to update?

        • What did you say to get the refund?

          • +1

@Feeblely: The credit isn't a gift card, so when you go to checkout another item on Amazon AU, mine shows a -$15 promo. It was pretty instant after chat, I just had to check it applied on my next purchase with Amazon AU. I'm not sure when it expires.

            Here's the chat transcript.
Me: Hi, I received my instant pot less than a week ago (still in box). there's a prime promotion today for 10% off, is there any way the promotion can be applied to my purchase or do I have to return it & rebuy it? Thanks
Amazon: I will check this for you. You need to send it and item and re order it
Me: how long does it take for a refund on the original purchase once it's received by amazon ?
Amazon: it takes to process 1-2 weeks
Me: thanks. And theres no way you can credit the difference with the 10% off now? is there no a price guarantee with prime?
Amazon: As an exception I can issue you the promo of AUD10 is that fine for you
Me: the 10% off is $14.19.. are you able to please credit that amount?
Amazon: I can issue you the promo of AUD15 as we do not have an option for price match but as I do want to create any further hassle for you as an exception I can do this for you
Me: thank you, AUD15 promo would be great. i really appreciate it.

            • @junet: Cheers I think it was cause I was looking at items not sold by Amazon AU the promo didn't apply.

  • Hi, don't know much about these things and wondering should I get this or an air fryer or are they the same things?

    • It's mainly an electric pressure cooker with some extra options/programs. It's not an air fryer - completely different thing.

    • See my first entry for the version with the air fryer attachment.

This is more an electric pressure cooker/slow cooker thingy. We use ours for stews, soups, Yogurt, porridge, corned beef, etc.

      • thanks guys
