completely different lenses, but yeah Tamron is sweet lens, bought it few months ago for $1,719.20
I’ve also been eyeing the Sony 12-24mm F4 over the above posted lens. But prices lately haven’t been amazing… will wait Boxing Day as it wasn’t in the latest cashback offer at all.
I don’t know why everyone goes goo goo ga ga for F2.8 lenses that wide.
For low light photography - such as astrophotography.
Sigma 14 1.8… love that lens
Absolute beast of an Astro lens 😍 got it a few years ago and absolutely love it
This is an astrophotography lens?
Also useful for low light indoor photography (e.g. group or realestate photos).
Ideally you want f1.8 or if have some cash to splash f1.4 for astrophotography.
f2.8 is good but 1.8 & 1.4 is where it's at.
That's as good as you can get for zoom lens. F1.4 and 1.8 are prime lens territory which limit your use cases.
Yup you are right, but depending on your use case.
Overall prime lenses are the way to go for astrophotography. Zoom lens will do the job but it's a massive difference when comparing them side by side.
@vash5: Agree :-)
Yes, the 14-24 2.8 is a good astro lens. People overstress the importance of a wide aperture in astro. In reality, f/2.8 does the trick, especially when you can stack images or star-track. There really is no value to such low apertures, given they come with fixed focal lengths and a hefty price tag.
PSA: The Sigma 14-24 f/2.8 on Sigma's actual website (sigmaphoto.com.au) is cheaper than any high-rep seller online atm. It's going for AU$1500.

Saw this.. too bad it’s not Tamron, eyeing the 70-180mm
