CPU Recommendation for RTX 3070 + Xiaomi 34"

Hey all,

Was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on a good value CPU to match the 3070 and a Xiaomi 34" monitor.

Currently sitting on a i5-6600k which still works alright, so not urgent, but would like to wring out some more of that 3070 performance.

I'm thinking about waiting for a Ryzen 5600 Non X, which I would expect to be marginally more expensive than the Ryzen 3600 but much better value and closer perf to the 5600x.

The alternatives I was considering has been the i5 10600k, which seems to be dropping in price towards $300 but still offset in value by the pricier z490 boards. And then there is always the aging 3600.

I think at 1440p 144Hz, you are bottleneck mainly by the GPU, which you already have the powerful graphic cards.
If you worries about the gaming performance, the next gen Ryzen 5000 series/Zen3 will be the solid upgrade.

Upgrade to 3600 or 10600k will definitely raise the performance but you are not urgent, I would suggest to wait….
And at least you might get better Intel deal against Zen3.

Just get a 5600X and play games today. AMD's moving plenty of Zen 3 CPUs and 7nm wafers are in short supply. Basically, a 5600 non-X is not coming any time soon. If you're going to wait, then you've made a silly decision to pick up a 3070 already as those are definitely coming down in price as supply increases.

As you point out, a 10600K is definitely cheaper. You can probably pick one up for below $350 these days, but Z490 boards are pricier than B550 boards, so even though the 5600X is around $110 more expensive, the difference works out to be around $60. At that price, I'd rather just go with the 5600X. Better performance and better upgrade path. The 10600K isn't bad, but it needs to be closer to $300 to be competitive.

I wouldn't go with a 3600. Hard to get them for a good price these days. You can get one for $300, but you've likely spent over $1000 on your PC, are you going to want to split hairs trying to save $169 on your CPU? I think the best option is the 5600X.
