How to Get Minimum Spend on Qantas Site?

On my AMEX card I get 2 free Qantas Club lounge invitations after first spend with Qantas. On another post it was suggested to spend $1 on the qantas carbon emission site.

My question is how do you spend $1 on carbon emissions, I can’t figure it out?

Any other suggestions also welcomed 😊

    • Thanks but if possible I'd prefer not to do that.

    • Seems like this is my only choice or forfeit the invitations. I’ve never done this before, are there fees involved or anything else to know? TIA

  • Go to the shop and sort by price and buy the cheapest thing there. I think it's a styrofoam airplane model lol

Cabon emissions purchase is only available when you book a flight.

    • That's what I thought for carbon emissions thanks for confirming. I must be doing something wrong on the Qantas store, I went to https://store.qantas.com/au/c/shop and could only sort on A-Z or Z-A?

  • +1

The $1 spend on carbon emissions never worked for me. Also according to T&C's purchasing an item from the Qantas store won't get you the passes either.

"Lounge Invitations each anniversary year of your Card Membership after purchasing on selected Qantas products and services using your Qantas American Express Ultimate Card. Selected Qantas products and services are Qantas passenger flights with a QF flight number purchased directly from Qantas.com.au; Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and/ or annual fees."

The only way I have received my passes is by purchasing a Qantas flight, that includes Qantas reward flights where I just paid the fees.

  • I had the QANTAS AMEX Premium card and the carbon emissions trick worked for me. This was about 6 months ago.

    • Awesome how did you do it?

      • qantasfutureplanet.com.au

Go here and pick a short route that the offset is over $1.

        • Cheers, I tried that but the page didn’t load?

          • @bobwokeup: Looks like you're right. Maybe they shut it down?

            • @bym: Damn okay thanks for trying.

              • @bobwokeup: It worked for me recently, got the lounge pass after a few days.

  • In the same boat as you, haven't attempted yet but potentially purchasing top-up points could trigger it?

Terms & conds don't mention anything specific around it, and given qantas has a top up bonus frenzy at the moment, would make it very worth it.

    • Yeah it’s worth a shot. I checked with customer care and they said Qantas flight or join Qantas Club.

  • I know this is late but apparently all Qantas classic reward flight bookings are are fully flexible until the 31st of March. So you should be able to cancel the flight easily and get your lounge passes.

    • It’s not late I still have the option to get the passes. It does seem to be the only way but I’m worried I won’t be able to get a full refund and it’s a credit which is what it says on their website:

Flights on or before 31 March 2021
If you're due to travel on a Qantas flight and wish to change your plans, you can cancel your booking and retain the full value as a flight credit.

      • Request your Flight Credit before your scheduled date of departure.
  • Those are the terms for a normal Qantas flight booked with cash. Read under the 'Flexible Classic Flight Rewards' part on the same page.

Changes on or before 31 March 2021
If you have a Classic Flight Reward booking (using Qantas Points) and wish to change your date of travel, you can do so by 31 March 2021 and we’ll waive the change fee.

If you have a Classic Flight Reward booking (using Qantas Points) and wish to cancel your trip, you can do so by 31 March 2021 and we’ll waive the cancellation fee. The total Qantas Points used and any taxes, fees and carrier charges paid will be refunded.

This waiver applies to itineraries that consist only of Classic Flight Rewards. If you combine a Classic Flight Reward with a non-Classic Flight Reward fare, this waiver won’t apply.

    • Oh yeah I see what you mean but why does it say using Qantas Points?

      • Because a Qantas Classic Flight Reward is a flight booked using Qantas points.

        • Silly me I was still stuck on the idea I had to pay for it and then get a fill refund. I’m nervous about doing it as things are changing daily/weekly with COVID. I guess I could do it and then cancel the next day to reduce the risk. What would you do?

          • +1

@bobwokeup: I would either book a flight route that I might take in the future or book the lowest cost flight around the end of March. According to AMEX terms the flight must be a Qantas flight, so no Jetstar. Also, I would wait until I get the lounge passes onto my Qantas account before canceling flight. Last time I got my lounge passes a week after booking the flight.

  • Any other options for a Qantas purchase? Sad to see that they disabled the ability to manually buy offset via qantasfutureplanet.com.au .

And now the other workaround of refunding a no-fee-cancellation flight is also not possible.

    • I redeemed a classic rewards flight a few days ago and paid pretty much the entire fare with points + $1 on the taxes portion. Amex statement indicates that the lounge passes should be on their way. If you booked a classic rewards flight you can cancel with no issues until 30 June 2022 - points should be credited back to your account shortly based on others' experiences (ymmv), not sure how long the $1 will take to arrive back tho.
