Buy before Christmas! Ortiz Anchovies in Olive Oil 450g

    $189/kg for anchovies is NOT a bargain…

    • Have to agree with you there haha.

      • It's also $15 for delivery…

    • $188.89 to be precise

      • I pay cash.

    Poor fish!

100g at Aldi for $2.99 - the bargain here is buying $15 worth of Aldi anchovies AND getting and extra 50g worth with a bonus of $70 still in your pocket.

    • According to JV I actually have $85 in my pocket as I'm also not paying for shipping.

I love making soooo much money on OzB

I actually have $85 in my pocket

Remember, that is after-tax dollars though…

        • +1

Yes JV - all my money in my pocket is after tax. The legal thieves called the tax department don't allow me to repay them, they prefer to take more than they should and then get me to fill out 16 pages every year to get my own money back!

          • @CachePC:

Yes JV - all my money in my pocket is after tax.

You need to get an apartment in Monte Carlo then…

  • I wish I was as expensive as an anchovy

    • you probably smell nicer though

  • WHy on earth would someone buy this at that price, when a similar product sold at the same place (also hand held) is much much cheaper

    Pricing mistake?

    • Also available on Ebay at the same list price from the same seller
Bargain is availability, not price ;)

Availability is not a bargain on ozBargain. This is not ozAvailable

    • I stand corrected, price just bumped up to $12.00

Honestly thought this was a price error in the title but wtf that's more than them fishy eggs. Money I'd rather spend on some A5 Wagyu

I'd rather spend on some A5 Wagyu

Is your Wagya filleted one by one using a knife and packed carefully by hand in olive oil ???

      • Yes minus the olive oil. I do that part. Keeping it fresh and stuff

    I'll give you 20 dolla

    • I read that in a Donald Trump Chinese accent…

Costco sells this brand product for $29 for 3x55g = $175.75kg. Plus you don't need to buy so much, and it'll keep better being in 3 separate packets…

    • The Ortiz I have are in 47g tins. I’m pretty sure they are around 10 dollars per tin.
These are absolutely lovely, but if you pop open a tin of 450g, they are likely to either spoil or just used like regular anchovies. These anchovies are meant to be enjoyed on a less is more basis. To be savoured. I just don’t think 85 dollars is good value, or 100 with postage.

      • Agreed - Only need 10g of this stuff in pasta that serves 4 and it's plenty. Can't imagine eating 400g of this stuff in one go, or even a week

        • What else do you put in the pasta? I'd be reticent to use them that way.

          • @voteoften: Many options, but my faves are to augment aglio, olio e pepperoncino with a few minced fillets, or in a good puttanesca.

            • +1

@thebargainhunter: I absolutely cannot stand anchovies, but loooove it in a puttanesca! Absolutely essential to bring out the depth of flavour!

  • I'm not saying it's a GREAT bargain BUT I think what the vendor has done a lousy job in stating is that these are premium quality anchovies. So a cut above the generic supermarket stuff.

So by the same token seeing them as a commodity - i.e all anchovies are the same quality and therefore price is only variable is silly of folks. Like coffee, rice, fish sauce, and many other products that folks who aren't into them wouldn't realise - the quality varies a LOT once you can understand the cheapest isn't also the 'best' quality.

    • Yeah, canned fish from portugal, spain and many other regions are incredibly high quality and sought after.

I love me some portugese sardines on toast

    • Yeah, the Ortiz anchovy range is so, so much nicer than the bog-standard $2 supermarket anchovies - not bitter at all and few if any bones. This does have its downsides though - I compulsively eat them until I finish a $20 can in a couple of hours. Oily, fishy crack,

  • NO, i would rather eat fish

  • -4

Well, in a can is where they belong, not on a bloody pizza.

  • I thought it's ¢85……

    • its a pricing error that benefits the business not the buyer. haha

  • This is cheap, I usually pay around $17-$20 for 50g (so… 450g total would normally be $153)..But I guess this size keeps fresher since I don't have to consume that much at once in a short time.

  • Can I pick things up on Saturdays or what times are you open normally on weekdays?

I am in metro sydney but I don't qualify for free delivery over $130?
