Ken M of Ozbargain folks
I have a i5-6400, is my board compatible with this cpu? If yes, is this worth upgrading to or should I upgrade entire system?
Negative my dude
Youd have to upgrade mobo also
As someone has said, this CPU won't work on your board, you'll need to upgrade that too. As for if it is worth upgrading, depends on your use of a computer. Generally speaking, it's probably worth upgrading your drive to an ssd (if you don't already have one) or a better GPU before a CPU upgrade.
By doing some mod, yes. If it's a z170 z
270 maybe worth trying. Otherwise, get a new generation bargain.
Not a good deal. Unless you're upgrading from 8th gen Intel. Ryzen 3600 has this beat in many benchmarks.
In gaming?
Ryzen 3600 is most overrated CPU of the last 2 years. i7 9700F is 11% faster according to UserBenchmark:
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-9700F-vs…That website is not reliable
Userbenchmark is bias against AMD.

It's literally saying the 9700F is better than the 3950X
or that the 3950X is only 4% better than the 10100

I mean, I've heard people say that. I don't believe it though. It is literally based on user-submitted benchmarks alone. You can't get more objective than that imo.
@Gamer Dad Reviews: No, it can still be biased due to its weighting.

Just to be clear, I do agree the 9700F is faster in gaming and about on par with the 3600 with productivity. I was just simply pointing out about userbenchmark.
False. The Core i7 9700F is faster, period.
The Ryzen 5 3600 has roughly equal IPC and overclocks to about 4.2GHz realistically. And needs higher frequency memory to maximise performance.
Meanwhile the i7 9700F has 2 extra cores and runs max turbo 4.5GHz on all cores when you lift power limits in the BIOS to 200W+. No need to even mess with overclocking or finetuning settings.
The advantage the 3600 has is a slim edge in heavily multithreaded applications due to SMT and the fact you won't need to invest in an aftermarket cooler to get great out of the box performance. Plus the motherboard you pair with it may have an upgrade path to Zen3.
I won't tell anyone…
