Received an email from Telstra today to upgrade our TG799 modem. Wasn’t sure at first if it was a scam but it seem genuine.
“We noticed you're using an older modem. So to help you get the most out of your home internet connection, upgrade to our Telstra Smart Modem™ at no charge.
You'll enjoy the latest Wi-Fi technology from Telstra, even with multiple devices online at once. Plus, with mobile backup, your Smart Modem will automatically switch to our 4G mobile network within minutes if your connection is interrupted.”
Our connection is fibre to the home with home phone. We have the modem wifi turned off as we use a bridged Apple AirPort Extreme connected via lan cable in another room as it is more central in the house for wireless coverage. Currently on Telstra’s 50/20 plan with only two people in the house.
Apart from the 4G backup is there any advantage going through the hassle of swapping over to their Smart Modem?
Just take it as a backup.
