Crucial M4 SSD 128GB SSD

Where is the cheapest place to buy a Crucial M4 SSD 128GB SSD 2.5" at the moment? Thanks

  • I want the deal too!

  • Looking for something a little bigger 200+GB myself but let me know what you find.

  • there's currently a deal thread RE amazon option:

128GB comes in around $183 delivered to melbourne.
however, consider that you'd probably pay $10 more for CC/Paypal conversion fees and/or poor exchange rate.

also consider there's yet to be a fix on the Crucial M4 drive where they have issues at 5200hours of use:

    i own a 128gb m4 and it's fantastic.
i'm not too worried and am sure there'll be a firmware fix for the above issue soon

  • You can track Crucial M4 deals using the Crucial M4 tag.

I am bringing back this thread because I'm also interested in buying one. The mechanical hard drive on my ThinkPad just died. While Lenovo is sending me a new drive, I am wondering whether I should take this opportunity to upgrade to an SSD.

It would be my main work machine but I don't use a lot of space — 128GB would do. I would be running Windows 7 with Virtual Box running some Linux VM — would that be an issue? My main concern would be stability. I move my laptop a lot and obviously the old mechanical drive is far less than trouble free (died after 14 months). I know Crucial M4 comes with 3 year warranty but restoring from backup has always been a hassle.

How would you rate stability of 128GB Crucial M4 (assuming I've managed to update to the latest firmware), on a laptop that is on > 12 hours a day and always moves around?

  • scotty: Do you do alot of writes to the drive? From the below link and the links contain therein provides some excellent information.

I was looking to purchase a SSD but realised I enjoy my morning walk to get my cuppa while waiting for my computer to boot lol.

    • Thanks for the link. Will have a look tomorrow. No, I don't enjoy the boot up time of my pappy, which is why it's in sleep mode whenever I am not using it.

  • +1

Personally I would be going for the New Intel 520 Series SSD's
Using Sandforce chips combined with Intel's reliability. Comes with 5yr warranty

    Specs here:

Reviews have also been very positive:

I'm guessing the warranty would probably only apply to drives purchased locally (unless you plan to ship it back to the country from which you bought it). Even then if Intel are willing to put a 5yr guarantee on their drives you would hope they would be a bit more reliable than the other brands currently selling on the market.

    • After reading about SSDs I would second the motion in regards to Intel SSDs I don't think I have come across anything negative written about them.

  • I know this is a few years old. However, if you have purchased an M4, make sure your firmware is up to date. It has driven me nuts over the past few weeks why my PC would randomly screen with ultimately a blue screen of death (BSOD). I ran virus scans, malware scans, memory scans, chkdsk diagnostics… bloody everything (nothing on Event Viewer). Eventually I figured out it would be after c.1 hour and realised that Crucial M4 SSDs sold have an error in their firmware which shuts down the hard drive after an hour after 5,200 hours of use (may have been tricked by a Windows Update). Funnily enough I got my laptop c.4 years ago, so timing of this crash for many would be around now.
