I just called Apple Customer Support and they matched The Good Guys/OfficeWorks/JB Hi-fi current 10% off Macbooks. I bought a 16" Macbook Pro at a $440 discount, plus Apple will still honour their own Black Friday deal, which is a $210 Apple Store gift voucher (handy because I'm going to need some USB3 cables.) Paid online and could have it delivered for free or pick up in store anytime from today. (I'm going Sunday.)

I think you're right. You can always go through the purchase process online and should see the gift card before you pay.
Some details:
- this was always the case with retail Apple Stores (I did not know that they did that at the online store too)
- they can only price match up to 10% but it is very rare when you will see a bigger discount anyway
