Dell Inspiron 15" 2 in 1 7506 - Problem with Bluetooth Mouse Lag

With all these amazing deals on Dell laptops popping up, I thought I might share my experience just in case it saves anyone from the frustration that I've been experienced in the last few days. I recently (less than a week ago) bought a Dell Inspiron 15" 2in1 (7506) and have been experiencing BT mouse lag similar to this. It would seem that Google is rife with similar complaints with varying effectiveness of fixes.

I've spent the last 3 days now trying to troubleshoot this and I am now at the point where I am in the process of returning it. I've updated the BIOS, tried disabling C-STATE in the BIOS, installed all the latest Windows, Dell and Intel drivers, disabled power management in device manager. Dell support initiated a remote session, checked for Dell updates, moved the mouse cursor around in circles, and went into mouse settings to change the speed of the pointer (??) and essentially weren't able to find out what was wrong (they didn't even look in device manager). Their solution was to "back up your data and do a factory reset"

Overall great sales experience and delivery, but after sales support is woeful. May have to go back to my trusty HP Spectre for awhile. Used HP support previously too and must say that I had a much better experience with them. They seemed better trained, more knowledgeable and less haphazard.

Incidentally if anyone knows the fix for this please let me know, I'd really like to get it working with this otherwise well-built laptop.

Bluetooth mouse connections naturally has high latency, some will be better than others but you should invest in a 2.4ghz wireless mouse.

  • Have you tried a different mouse?

    • Yes both mice work on a different laptop but not the Dell. It seems to be a common issue online.

  • Most modern mice have close to 0 perceptible, non-gaming use, lag.

I have the Logitech M720 Triathlon and a a MS Surface mouse. Both work 100% on my HP Spectre x360 2in1, but not on the dell. It's like the BT driver disconnects from the mouse for anywhere from 0.5 - 2s whereby you go to move the mouse (or scroll the wheel) and nothing happens, then suddenly it comes back online again. Very intermittent, unpredictable and annoying.

  • Do you have a portable HDD plugged in?

I had an issue with mouse / keyboard lag on the logitech BT keyboard/mouse combo. Moving the portable HDD into the furthest away USB port worked.

Apparently this is a known issue where the USB for the portable HDD throws off interference…

    • No, nothing plugged in any of the ports, just a mouse connected via BT.

  • BT can also be affected by any surrounding wireless. Try different locations when you're using the laptop: different room/house/outside/etc.

    • Good point, though I've since tried it in 3 different locations including the office and in the car!

      • Then it's the laptop, you must've got a dud one. If it's recently bought, you may be able to get a replacement or a refund. Just say Bluetooth ain't working. They'll sort out the collection and postage.
        💩 happens.

        • Barely 5 days old, have initiated a return. Doesn't look like I'm the only one with this issue according to Google.

  • Brought an Inspiron during the EOF sales and another caveat, which probably should be expected, is the build quality of these lower models.

Very crappy plastic, feels like using an old brick of a laptop even if it looks okay.

  • The inspiron does feel cheap, but then again I'm comparing it to the aluminium chassis of the HP Spectre x360 which is probably a bit unfair..
