An Unlikely Dixie Drumstix Replacement

Some of the veteran Ozbargain generation may recall the In a Biscuit - Dixie Drumstix.
For some, they were considered one of, if not, best artificially flavoured/salt-laden cracker

However they appear to have been discontinued in the last few years and are no longer available.
Despite petitions and facebook groups they are still unavailable and continue to be pined for.

When browsing Coles last week i noticed The Natural Cracker Co. Farmhouse Cheddar Crispy Crackers available at half price and thought i'd try some.

Wow, as you should've guessed by now, it tasted just like Dixie Drumstix!
Having not had Dixie's for as long as I can remember - the mixture of salt, cheese, onion powder (with natural flavours) with the light flakey biscuity texture captured the essence of the Dixie's in a way I had not experienced before.

So in case there are any other Dixie Drumstix aficionados out there i thought I'd share my experience. They should still be half price until tomorrow.
I went to get some more yesterday but they were cleared out. It was also quite surprising that only the Cheddar variety was gone, so that demonstrated that, Dixie Drumstix comparison aside, they should be still be a tasty snack. Admittedly the other flavours sounded a bit underwhelming for a cracker.

Finally given Arnott's Shapes are probably the most popular cracker brand i thought I'd do a customary poll to see which flavour is the most popular/well-regarded

Note i am not affiliated with Coles, The Natural Cracker Co., Shapes or Nabisco

    God tier: BBQ, Chicken Crimpy
    Decent tier: Cheddar, Pizza
    Underrated tier: Savoury

Ohh really? I bought some margherita pizza ones and salt and vinegar are ok. Normally just get shapes when on special for $1.60. Pizza is best, cheddar, nacho and cheese and bacon are 2nd and then the rest. I do like the lamb and parmy ones.

Dixie drumsticks were the best biscuit snack ever.

Seriously, if you're right, you will become my new favourite person. It's hard to imagine anything coming close, but I'm going to have to try it for myself. :)

    • Hopefully it hasnt been so long that i forgot, but the mouthfeel is undeniably similar.

  • Dixie Drumsticks are disgusting. That food pyramid is all wrong. Shapes at the top and a garbage bin next to the pyramid and the Dixies in there…

Ok, who hurt you today peg?

      • RDO and I'm bored! :P

PS: Dixie Drumstick are still far far inferior to Chicken Crimpies…

Cheese in a Biscuit still reigns supreme

Yeah, Chicken Crimpies are pretty awesome. Especially with guac - a combination I've recently discovered, and wish I'd known about years ago.

@ChocStrawberries: Never tried that combination, but now I’m the one that regrets I never heard about this years ago… know what I’m buying tomorrow :D

            • @pegaxs: It's a secret I'm happy to share. It's pretty addictive though….my waist wishes I'd never discovered it! ;)

The ones called burger sauce are actually a very convincing McDonald’s pickle flavour.

    • Interesting. They didn't have the flavour available (nor the roast chicken which sounds like it could potentially be even more like Dixie Drumstix)
It's not a flavour that would normally compel me to try it. You've piqued my interest.
Maybe next time if they're available (and half price)

  • they should be still be a tasty snack
    artificially flavoured/salt-laden cracker

I think you see the correlation? :D

Reporting back to confirm that these are, in fact, very close to Dixie Drumstix! A bit more cheesy, but since when has that been a bad thing? The texture is spot on. I'm a very happy woman right now. Thanks OP! :)

    • Glad to hear some independent confirmation!
I noticed Woolworths seems to carry the Roast Chicken flavour, which might be even closer.

And I'm kicking myself that I didn't try those! There's always next time. :)
