Viewsonic M1 Mini Pico Projector with JBL Speakers $199 (was $299) @ Kogan

90

I think this is currently the sweet spot for pico projectors for sale in Australia at the moment.

There is a Viewsonic M1 mini+ that comes with android TV but it's another $140. Just use a Chromecast with Google TV instead and you will have way better performance and experience anyway.

This thing is tiny, comes with a battery and good for traveling or ad-hoc usages like the kids play room.

Don't expect the world it's only has a 854x480 native resolution but that's on par with other pico projectors at the budget range.

I was expecting more than 50 lumens nowadays. Even for a pico thats pretty bad.

The specs on this are really low - if you want a cheap and nasty projector, you can get a no-name Chinese brand for peanuts.

You really want at least 200 Lumens brightness and Full HD in 2020… And that can be had for under $300.

    • I haven't looked for a while but all the 1080p versions were north of $700. I'll grab one if you can find me one for the $300 mark

      • Not portable, but I have been using one of the excelvan ones off eBay for circa 3 years and so far so good. If I remember I got it for around $150 mark at that time. I can’t seem to find my exact same model but a quick search for excelvan on eBay shows a lot of them for about $109.

        • Cheers! I guess making it palm sized and battery powered (plus a cheap speaker) all add to the cost….which I don't really need. That will be fine for the odd outdoor movie.

A link would be really helpful here.

    • I got the AUN AKEY 6 for $280 off Banggood and its actually pretty damn good, better than what I was expecting. It seems full HD, and just good enough for cheap bedroom setup, fan noise is quite loud though but I use headphones with anc. A possible alternative is hunt for some well priced used 1080p projectors on Gumtree, but then beware of lamp life etc.

    • I own this Viewsonic model and I should say that the convenience factor is definitely outweighting the low specs for me. It's tiny, no wires, very quiet. You can take it in bed with you and watch a movie on the ceiling. You can start watching in one room and then easily move to another room. It's very cool to have a freedom of no permanent or semi-permanent setup.
