TV Recommendations after Spider Killed Mine - 40-50", under $600 - Any Black Friday Suggestions?

A massive huntsman in my bedroom (yes, I know they are not dangerous) caused a chaotic scene like something out of a comedic sketch. Ended up with a dead spider, but also a dead tv. Turns out my home contents policy excludes accidental damage. So, I need a new TV.

I had a Hisense. Picture was fine but annoyingly, it no longer supports Plex so I'd bought a Roku stick to use Plex.

Features I need:
* something in the 40-50 inch range;
* nice clear picture (I'm already blind as a bat with thick glasses, so need all the help I can get!);
* built in app access to catch up tv options and ABC Kids is a priority.

It is only used for a few hours at night to stream shows via Plex - no gaming etc. I'm guessing Roku will work with all tvs (??) so a Plex app isn't needed.

I'm reluctant to choose "no brands" as I've gone that route in the past and been stuck with lemons. That said, I'm on a budget so am open to them if they have the features I need.

Any suggestions for tvs I should be considering and any Black Friday sales to keep an eye on?

Thanks in advance.

    rip little Spidey :(

    I came here to see how a Spider destroys a TV.

      My best guest is them making webs and blocking ventilation holes or walking around the circuit causing components to short. Their excrements could also cause shorts.

    MsPaint Diagram of spider and TV please

  • I had a Hisense

    That was your first mistake, no wonder spidey got upset

  • Sorry, no video of what happened unfortunately, but I do have a "before" showing the spider (https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoGe0MRM1WpigY15g31rmFUcbJEs7w) and an "after" showing the TV (https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoGe0MRM1WpigY16FdwDCgVaGAY_YQ).

    • Thong throw or Shoe ?

      • Thong, not a throw but a splat, but missed and he scurried around back. My 2 year old was sitting on the bed crying which didn't help matters. (I think he was crying because his Paw Patrol was being disturbed, not because he was scared of the spider LOL.)

    • You could mount the broken TV on the wall and use it as a clock.

    • Just offering a suggestion about sharing your images, currently you are sharing your whole OneDrive, you may want to check permissions/shares or upload the images to a sharing website (e.g. imgur).

        Really? I have a small "public" folder where I put things I'm happy to share (so you may be able to see a video or 2 of my dog panting which was for the vet to see) and a few other things that aren't private. I'm hoping you can't see more than a handful of things… :|

  • Bigger than you want, but has a Aldi 65" on 25th November for $599. Look up the specs on the Aldi site and it's got a 60 day return policy, so if you don't like it you can return it. I have seen in the past some stores have had some TV's they did not sell and they were floating around the stores for a few months, so you may find that the store you go to may have a 40" FHD or 55 UHD from a few months ago.

    • Thanks, but 65" in a bedroom would be huge, and unfortunately I don't have another one in the house in the 40-50" range that I could trade it with. Thanks though.

  • You did this purposely for a new TV in time for Black Friday :P

      lol, yep, you got me ;)

  • Your insurance only replace it if you broke it on purpose then?

    • lol. No, home and contents insurance covers theft, fire, flood etc. Often they have accidental breakage cover included, but unfortunately my policy doesn't have it as standard and it is an optional extra I evidently didn't select when I took out the policy :(

  • https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/ffalcon-50uf1-50-4k-ultra…

    Made by TCL, 4.2/5 star reviews, a decent selection of streaming apps (ABC iView available through Freeview Plus, amongst others), and is from a brick & mortar store which will make any potential returns down the track less painful.

    Has been as low as $398 a couple of times.

    or this Hisense which ticks all the same boxes for a bit more.

    • Sounds like a good option, thanks.

  • I’ve got the 50” Ffalcon 4K TV in the garage and I’m very happy with it. Australia Post had a 40” Soniq TV for $199 a couple of months ago, unsure if it’s still available.

  • Eko 55" 4k HDR from Big W for $379. Trust me, this thing is a beast. I just bought the 75" and 55" model after hearing lots of positives on Facebook and its brilliant.

    I haven't even touched the picture settings as they are so good out of the box, especially the HDR Standard mode when playing HDR content. The sound is brilliant…so much louder than any other TV I've owned and the UI is pretty good. For $379 and $799 it's highway robbery.

    Only negative is the remote feels a little cheap and the buttons are a tad spongey…but it does let you setup your mobile as a remote if you wish.

    I HIGHLY recommend.
