15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

Went coles in morning around 7am gone in mins. Then went coles around 1pm, restocked, have few left at that time

    • or ymean, go back in store again. None of my local ones have stock anymore!

  • Is it worth trying to find cards anymore? If some were pulled from the shelves as they weren't activating I guess they will put them back eventually. Would they even get more stock seeing as the promo runs until 01/12

    • +2

Yes verified from hierarchy at Coles head office.they will be getting more stock in and restocking the shelves continually while the sale is on.

If it actually happens only time will tell..

      • Good to know cheers

  • +1

Bought $500 worth at around 11:45AM from a Coles in Melbourne. They were all approved successfully during purchase, confirmed by receipts. TCN website showing that the cards are active, but an available balance of $0.

TCN not answering their phones - diverting straight to mail.

    • Wife brought some kids card around 11 Qld time. Still 0

      • +1

Update - 3.5 hours later, some of my cards are now showing a balance

        • Yes, they are slowly show up. So do not too worry guys.

  • +2

I just saw on news.com.au they've done a "hack" article saying you can save 15% off buying him her gift cards, so I assume whatever stock is left (which people from OzB have not bought lol) will be picked up quickly by the rest of the public..

    • +2

And more people will get angry their cards with 0 balance. More call to tcn and coles. More complaints. …..

  • so what's the latest situation on gift cards that were sold but have zero balances?
Do we wait it out, or ring coles/TCN and try and get them reloaded?

    • Got confirmation from local coles store, saying they can 'sort it out' if I came back to store. You can give it a try.

      • Or you could just wait. It took close to 4 hours for the 4x $50 HER cards the wife bought to activate, showed with a 0 balance until they did.

        • ok confirming that mine got loaded after about 4 hours too.
          phew.

  • Just bought 5 kids card, hoping they can work in jbhifi, planning buy Logitech super light pro x,but my card still shows 0 balance but active.from Canberra around 2hours ago

    • If it still shows 0, I don't think it will work.

      • Yeah, but I can wait till December when they release the new mice,or should I go to coles tell them to refund me?

        • Just wait. It took a few hours for it to change from $0 on my cards

        • First they won't refund if it has been approved(activated). Second, you do not need to, just wait for them to load the money. Wait for 2-5 hours.

  • +1

ok. my $500 her card was up and running at 10am ,purchased at 8:50am. managed to use them to purchased $500 jb giftcard at jb store.

$1000 Her and Him card puchased at 10:55am. active but no money, with approved on invoice, just got up and running at 2pm. so around 3 hours loading time.

$250 Her card purchased at 12pm, still no go atm, but nit 3 hours yet.

    • I thought you can’t use them to buy JB gift cards? This whole thing is all over the place.

      • T and C says you cannot. and cannot purchase over $500, but people are doing it all over in jb store, provide theia balance is up and running:)

  • +7

    So.
$500 giftcard through the Telstra deal.
    10% off Macbooks.
    15% off Giftcards.

👌 I need to take a pee after all of this.

    • +3

Get a urinary catheter with all those gift cards now

      • Just got a macbook pro.
In all it cost me $1617 for the 512gb and 8gb Ram.

So about $670 off the retail using the 10% off macs, Telstra gift card (factoring in my previous contract with optus) and the 15% off Him and her gift cards today.

    • Is $500 giftcard through the Telstra plan a deal? Can we just cancel the plan after I got the $500 gift card?

      • You'd pay termination costs

  • Has anyone come across a coles that didn't have plenty left?

    • Coles northland still have a bunch of HIM $50 and HER $100

    • Went to coles at lunchtime in Moonee Ponds (Melb) and were completely sold out of $100 gift cards. Only thing left were $50 teen cards so purchased 5 of them.

Not worth it, since I wanted a mac mini which are completely out of stock in store, now I need to go to JB to buy a JB voucher with these vouchers, then come home and order it online.

  • +8

To summarise: too much effort needed for saving $75 (JB $500 limit )

    • +1

      Yep. Buyer's regret over here.

      • They’re banking (literally) on many of these being unused

        • Jb didn't have a limit where I went.

        • Three year expiry is kind of ok

    • +9

Yeah, $75 made me : 2x back to coles because HIM error and the manager not there in morning plus another trip to JB
      petrol+tyre+break pads+oil+kms+etc = $75 :(
But the excitement, experience and most importantly part of ozbargain activities = priceless :)

  • Bought 2x $60 Nintendo eshop cards at a Coles in SA about 10am this morning, all good, added them to my Nintendo 'ewallet' just now. Thanks OP!

  • used 7 ( $100 ) cards at JB Nourlunga SA and no mention of limits

  • +3

This deal has another 5 days.. Planning to buy Macbook pro with 10% off deal, Is it worth to wait to nearby coles load the new TCG cards possibly coming days? Not sure how long JB will have 10% off on Macs..

    • +1

Called JB and this 10% off is till 1st Dec. But sounds like most stores have very limited stocks.

  • +24

Side note, just got back from Coles and managed to get a couple of $50 cards and need to give a shout out to the vigilant staff member in the self check-out area for actually asking and checking that I was buying the cards for my own use and trying to inform me of scammers. Some might find it annoying or be condecending about it because they think they're smart enough not to fall for it, but while cleaning out nan's place after she passed away, it was heartbreaking to find over 40 $100 iTunes gift cards that we never knew she bought from the local 7/11. Screw the person who didn't think it weird and to casually ask why a little 85 year old lady was buying so many iTunes cards.

    • +1

Couldn't agree more! Such a sad story I hear way to much these days… happy to hear coles went the extra mile, one day that person might save have an elderly person thousands by asking that very question!

    • Just had this as well. Then she informed the entire line about scams.
Thankful for people like that :-)

  • I bought some 'HIM' cards only which one I have activated, or attempted to as I still have the $0 balance problem like others. I noticed the card said 36 months expiry.

Does anyone know if I have to register all my cards now or can I wait until anytime before the 36 months?

    • same issue

      • +2

I reckon there is a congestion on their system.

    • once activated at checkout, the 36 months clock starts, not when you register online

    • I bought some @11:00 and just checked, they are now active and showing correct balance.

  • Can anyone confirm if it's possible to convert physical TCN GC to digital GC on JBs website? And if so what the process is for doing this?

    • You can't

  • Anyone had JB enforce the $500 limit?

  • -4

I think I found a loophole to the not enough cards issue

    • +3

      Don't leave us hanging

    • spills

    • How do you keep an idiot in suspense?

    • +8

I think he fell down the loophole

    • Loopholes mentioned on this website get closed very quickly…and will no longer be available in the future.

  • +5

What’s the record for number of comments on any ozbargain post?

    • +2

That would have been the Bunnings Drone thread of last year.

      • catching it - just checked and it was 2300 comments we at over 1500 here and this may have days to run. Im still bummed I missed that Drone deal.

  • Success with 13 $100 gift cards at JB Belmont WA

    • +4

      Borat voice "Great Success"

  • I purchased a soundbar and tv from jb's they had to get the managers approval as the store had print out with a picture of the gift cards saying to limit it to $500. I also tried to purchase a jb hifi gift card but was told i couldnt. How many of you are getting around this? Maybe just the luck of the person serving you?

    • +2

manager allowed me to use 32 gift cards as i was in earlier this morning before this rule was in place. Left and came back as they didnt have stock of the original model i wanted.

    • Yes I guess some staff just don't aware of the gift card policies

  • +1

Perth CBD Coles wouldn’t do the deal, saying as it’s a central CBD store they’re not doing the weekend catalogue deal which they say this is one of.

    • Yes that is normal for that store. Raine square coles is in the fine print in the catalogues.

    • Had the same thing with Coles CBD @ brisbane.

    • "borrow" card from stores ,purchase at another store that participates?

      • As I have said before, that's theft. Even if it has no value. Surely ozbargainers aren't desperate enough to resort to that these days?

        • +1

Surely not :) went to few Coles. All sold out. Just ended up buying some Google credit. Tons left.

          • @starburstyellow: Lol judging by some of the comments in this thread it wouldn't surprise me if someone did.

  • My experience with JB today is that the 3 JB's in the greater Wollongong area all said the limit was $500 with exceptions when I called. I called Campbelltown in Western Sydney and they said there was no limit and will accept as many gift cards as you have but you have to show your ID if the gift cards are over $500… so that's who got my business today

  • +2

The lady who served me was very nice.
I apologised profusely about having the gift cards, she was happy they were $100 ones as someone had gone in and purchased items using $30 giftcards and that was killing the eftpos machine.

  • Joining the club - bought cards 1120, went to pay with cards at JB counter 1430 - still not activated…. man! Prob an activation backlog? Shoulda checked balance before I went. Doh

  • 1225: I purchased 5 x $100 gifts cards (3 x Him, 2 x Her).
1527: I have only registered one Him and one Her card and it's still showing zero balance.

    • They will load. Just give it some more time

    • +1

Do you need to manually register them yourself to get the value loaded? Thought this was automatic once Coles register scans it through

      • This is also what I assumed

        • I don't think you need to register for the value to be loaded. It's only in case you lose or misplace the card, then notifiy TCN and they'll cancel the existing card and send a new card out with the remaining balance.

          • @Uncaged: How do you notify them though? Their contact number just dials out.

  • do all restaurants and cafes accept the restaurant card if they have EFTPOS machine? The directory on their website doesn't work?
Also does RSL fall under pub card or restaurant card?

    • +1

So far I’ve had no problems using it even at Maccas and I thought fast food was excluded.

      • is that the restaurant card for maccas? I want to buy more but just worried that it will have exclusions.

        • +1

Yes the restaurant card, loaded on my iPhone wallet app.

          • @dreamykitten: Is that restaurant card you are referring to a digital restaurant card or physical one?

          • @dreamykitten: sweet!!! so you can use it anywhere if it's a restaurant/cafe? what about inside an RSL?

            • +1

@easoweno: I’ve used it at cafes and restaurants and things like boba tea shops and Maccas and Nando’s. No problems so far. I would think RSLs would also work.

              • @dreamykitten: is it like a digital card you can use? i went into coles had at a look at the physical card and i didnt know how the card would work. it has the card code and pin do you enter that in the EFTPOS machine?

                • +2

@smeng: just swipe like eftpos card choose sav then enter pin

                  • +1

@roosterman: i didnt see a black stripe on the actual physical restaurant card? unless i am totally blind, can you confirm thanks.

i was going to buy a card and use it to buy lunch today from the food court but i was worried i would look like a fool

                    • @smeng: Pretty sure there’s a magnetic stripe. That’s how I use my physical Ultimate Eats card. Swipe at the EFTPOS machine.

                    • @smeng: can confirm there's a magnetic strip as the staff at jb were swiping it against the eftpos machine.

    • Would like to know as well considering i just bought $500 worth
