  • Does anyone have this? Is it a gimmick? I can’t tell if it’d make the experience better or get annoying

No it's not a gimmick, your LED gamer lights changing colour to maybe vaguely match what is on your TV is a life changing experience. Just amazing. Wow.

      • Always wondered if these produce to much delay to be used for gaming.

    • You can get a feel for it if you connect your laptop to the TV, and install the huesync app

    • I like it. Lighting is a cheap way to make any room feel more luxurious.

It wont be the right plug though. Good if you have a spare hole in your Hue Play plug.

  • This the 1st Gen or 2nd Gen (that supports 4K) ?

  • It comes from the USA. Will it have the correct voltage for Australia?

    • Q&A indicates that it does, but of course the plug won’t fit our sockets - you would just need a dumb adaptor.

Most manufacturers seem to be using one switch mode power supply for many markets now, and it will cope with something like 100 thru 240v. Best ones simply have a figure eight input for the power, and you can just use a local power cable. I expect these ones have a hardwired power lead.

Hrmmm save $150 but have to buy a US to AUS adaptor…. hrmmmm wonder if JB will do a 20% of Philips products over Black Friday or cyber Monday or Boxing Day…. which will bring it down to like 400 but have correct plug. It sucks they don’t coke with different adaptors inside the box or that you could buy an adaptor from Philips

Just a warning for anyone considering this who has a new ps5 or series x, it doesn’t support hdmi 2.1 and the associated features like VRR and 4k/120. Hopefully they release an updated version soon but I wouldn’t hold your breath. I really want to get one for my setup but I’ll be waiting until they add 2.1.

    • This is literally just released though…

      • This is the US model, which has been on sale for ages. Australia only just got this and might be a new model

Australia only just got this and might be a new model

The newly released Australian model is hdmi 2.0. Bear in mind that if your TV doesn't have a 2.1 input, and you're not intending to replace it any time soon, then it will work just fine for ps5/sx owners.

If you have your equipment plugged in to a surround receiver that has two hdmi outputs, one solution is to use the second output for the sync box. Then it doesn't matter what is being passed through the primary output or what standards it supports.

      • Yep so sadly we will be waiting a while for a 2.1 version. As you can see in the notes, it only mentions 4k/60. Which means it is HDMI 2.0b. HDMI 2.1 supports 4k/120 with VRR and ALLM.

        • Even the JB one is 4k/60, so when will this mythical 4k/120 be out?

          • +1

@Ameowzon: That’s anyone’s guess. Likely not soon. So go ahead and buy this one if you’re after one, but be aware if you’re planning on using it with a new console, you will miss out on a lot of the features it has. That’s assuming you have a hdmi 2.1 tv. Or plan to get one in the not too distant future. If this thing was cheap I’d just grab one now and then upgrade. But unfortunately it isn’t exactly cheap. So I’ll be waiting and hoping.

  • Flashy!

  • Bear in mind it doesn’t work for most TVs prior to 2018,. According to their support, it needs Dolby Vision to work:

“ If you were still unable to sync the lights with Hue Sync Box, it might be that your TV doesn’t support Dolby Vision fully, meaning that you can watch it on passthrough mode via Sync Box but the DOVI version is incompatible with the version we support to enable light sync.

Even with the toggle, we can’t support all former versions of DOVI. Make sure the TVs firmware is fully updated by connecting it to the internet. We have created a list of compatible devices on meethue.com (http://www.meethue.com/syncboxsupport ?). ”
